eat: SAVOY CAFÉ - PONTEVEDRA, ESPANHA

Em 2011 o histórico Savoy Café reabriu em Pontevedra após oito anos fechado. Se tivéssemos tido mais tempo na cidade este seria o sitio escolhido para almoçar mas como não era possível contentámo-nos como o pequeno-almoço.

Lugar de tertúlias viveu a sua época mais alta no final dos anos 30 e foi totalmente remodelado num estilo moderno. Apesar de gostar do seu interior penso que se tivessem conseguido recriar a decoração da sua época mais dourada poderia ser ouro sobre azul.

 

In 2011 the historic Savoy Café reopened in Pontevedra after being closed for eight years. If we had had more time in this city  it would be the site chosen for lunch but it was not possible and we are quite content with breakfast.
Place of gatherings lived his highest time in the late '30s and has been fully renovated in a modern style. Although I like the inside I think if they had managed to recreate the decor of it's golden time it would be the icing on the cake.

eat: HARINA - MADRID, ESPANHA

Quando cheguei a Madrid este foi dos primeiros sitios onde fui lanchar. Ao ver que tinham aberto outro harina perto da Fuencarral decidi que quando pudesse voltaria ali tudo porque na altura me tinham prometido um delicioso bolo de cenoura e quando lá chegámos não havia levando-nos a provar outra coisa.

Mas a harina não é famosa pelos seus bolos mas sim por ser uma padaria artesanal. Ao ler mais sobre a sua proprietária, Carmen Baudin fiquei com mais vontade de lá voltar.

 

When I arrived in Madrid this was one of the first places I visited. Seeing that they opened another one close to Fuencarral I decided that we I had time I would go back all because at the time I was promised a delicious carrot cake that upon our arrival it had finished so we had something else.

But harina is not only famous for it's cakes but for being an artisanal bakery. Reading more about it's owner, Carmen Baudin I had to go back.

eat: JUICY AVENUE - MADRID, ESPANHA



Descobri o Juicy Avenue por acaso. Estávamos parados num semáforo na zona de Alonso Martínez quando a sua loja me chamou a atenção principalmente pelos bagels.

A única vez que comi um bagel foi no Estados Unidos, fazia parte do "breakfast for champions" que tínhamos em casa dos meus primos e o seu maior fã era o marido, que os torrava com queijo cheddar. Eu gosto mais da versão com queijo Philadélfia.

 

I discovered Juicy Avenue by chance. We stopped at a traffic light in the Alonso Martínez area when their store caught my attention specially because it sells bagels.

The only time I hate a bagel was in the United States, it was part of our breakfast for champions that we had in my cousin's house and it's biggest fan was my husband, he toasted them with cheddar cheese. I like them more with the Philadélfia cheese.

eat: DELIC - MADRID, ESPANHA

 É um lugar especial e único em Madrid, um sitio para locais e também vemos que é frequentado por muitos estrangeiros que vivem na cidade: italianos, americanos, ingleses e claro está...portugueses! A próxima visita será para provar o mojito.

 

This is quite an unique place in Madrid, wether you are a local or an expat living here, we did saw italians, americans and of course...portuguese! On our next visit we need to try the mojito.

eat: CHOCOLATERIA SAN GINES - MADRID, ESPANHA

Localizada na Plazuela com o mesmo nome, esta chocolateria é um clássico da cidade. A sua especialidade: os churros com chocolate quente. Abriu as portas em 1894 e até hoje continua a servir os que dizem ser os melhores churros da cidade.

 

Located at the Plazuela (little square) with the same name, this is a classic chocolatier in town. It's specialty: the "churros" with hot chocolate. Opened it's doors in 1894 and today continues to serve the ones claimed to be the best churros in town.

eat: CHOCOLATERIA VALOR, ZARAGOÇA, ESPANHA

Apesar de termos entrado numa Valor em Zaragoça a verdade é que há destas chocolaterias por toda a Espanha. Com uma interessante herança de produção de chocolate desde o final do século XIX, os seus cafés diversificam a oferta também para sobreviver ainda que o seu negócio base seja sempre o chocolate, seja ele para consumo em casa (tabletes, bombons, etc..) ou para consumo nas chocolaterias onde se pode comer o tradicional churro e molhar numa taça de rico chocolate.

 

Although we entered a Valor in Zaragoza, the truth is that there are many of these chocolatiers throughout Spain. With an interesting heritage of producing chocolate since the late XIX, it's cafes diversify their offer also to survive even if their business is based on chocolate, be it for home consumption (chocolate bars, etc..) or for comsumption in their cafes where you can eat the tradicional "churro" and dipping it into a bowl of rich chocolate.

eat: CAFÉ MONTPARNASSE - PARIS, FRANÇA

Fica na Praça 18 de Junho de 1940, muito próximo do hotel onde ficámos (Best Western Aramis) e foi o espaço perfeito para comermos sem grandes deslocações depois de um compensador, mas estafante dia, a passear pela cidade.

Na realidade até procurávamos um local onde comer algo mais simples, uma salada ou do género porque com tantos dias de "road trip" a comer muitas vezes pelo caminho ou a experimentar todo o tipo de delicias culinárias, queríamos algo mais "light". 

 

Located in the Square 18th of June 1940, very close to the hotel where we stayed (Best Western Aramis) and was the perfect place to eat without walking to much after a rewarding but exhausting day of sightseeing.
And also we were looking for a café to eat something simple, a salad or something because with so many days of "road trip" often eating along the way or trying all sorts of culinary delights, we wanted something more light.

CAFÉ MONTMARTRE - ESTRASBURGO, FRANÇA

Prometia ser um pedaço de Paris em Estrasburgo, tinha uma esplanada disposta á boa maneira da capital e o menú com uma imagem da Sacre Coeur. Ainda não tínhamos chegado a Paris porque não tentar ter já um gosto de como será?

It promised to be a piece of Paris in Strasbourg, it had a terrace like the ones from the capital and the menu with a picture of the Sacre Coeur. We had not yet arrived in Paris having why not try a taste of how it will be?

eat: CAFÉ PAUL - PARIS, FRANÇA

Tínhamos acabado de entrar na avenida dos Campos Elisios, “estacionámos” as bicicletas e procurávamos um sitio para lanchar, a fome apertava e pedalar ainda nos fazia sentir mais vontade de comer.

Entrámos no Paul da Avenue Franklin Roosevelt por acaso, tinha excelente aspecto, com uma esplanada óptima e decidimos ficar por ali. Assim que vimos a montra dos bolos deu-me vontade de comer tudo, levar uma caixa dos famosos macarons mas conseguimos resistir.

 

We had just entered the Avenue des Champs Élysées, we "parked"  our bikes and start looking for a place to have a snack, we were starving and riding the bike made us feel more like eating.
We entered Paul's in the Avenue Franklin Roosevelt by chance, it looked great, with a nice terrace and decided to stay there. Once we saw the cakes window it made ​​me want to eat everything, buy a box of the famous macarons but we were able to resist.

LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN, MADRID, ESPANHA

Hoje lanchámos no Le Pain Quotidien na Gran Via.

Como em Portugal não existe ainda este conceito, acaba por ser novo para nós. O seu criador Alain Coumont abre a sua primeira padaria "gourmet" em Bruxelas e hoje em dia está em vários países como Inglaterra, Estados Unidos, Russia, México, entre outros.

Seguem uma filosofia de fabrico mais artesanal, com o pão feito com os ingredientes primários sem qualquer tipo de aditivos e amassado á mão para obter a melhor qualidade. Tudo isto se aplica o resto, desde os bolos aos croissants, passando pelas tarteletes que têm um maravilhoso aspecto.

eat: CAFÉ DERSUT - VENEZA, ITÁLIA

A caminho da estação de comboios de Veneza, já em jeito de despedida decidimos parar para comer algo no Café Dersut.

Localizado no Campo dei Frari, o Dersut é uma marca de café que tem lojas onde para nós nem era o mais importante. Na realidade a primeira coisa que chama a atenção é o seu mini-mercado de fruta fresca exposta. Precisávamos de carregar baterias e pedimos um "centrifughe" de laranja e cenoura, que vimos serem cortadas na hora. 

 

On our way to the train station of Venice, in a farewell mood we decided to stop for something to eat at Café Dersut.
Located in the Campo dei Frari, the Dersut is a coffee Brand that has shops where for us it was not even the most important (the coffee). In fact the first thing that attracts attention its mini fresh fruit market. We needed to charge batteries and asked for a "centrifughe" of carrot and orange, which we saw being cut in that exact moment.
