do: FONTANA DI TREVI - ROMA, ITÁLIA

Outro dos clássicos a visitar em Roma principalmente porque é aquela que nos garante o regresso á cidade. Diz a lenda que se atirarmos uma moeda á fonte voltaremos a Roma, uma vez que fomos poucos dias parece-me lindamente que a lenda se concretize.

Uma vez mais e tal como a Piazza Navona, a fonte dos Trevos está tao cheia de gente que quase nao conseguimos contemplá-la. Visitámos de dia e de noite, estando sempre muito concorrida, ainda assim há sempre um espacinho para atirar a referida moeda ou um “vendedor” de fotos em Polaroid para nos tirar uma foto a dois.

 

Another of the classics to see in Rome mainly because it ensures that we return to the city. Legend has it that if we throw a coin into the fountain we will return to Rome, since we came only for a few days it seems great to me that the legend trully happens.
Once again and like the Piazza Navona, the Trevi fountain is so crowded that we could not contemplate it. We visited day and night, always very busy, yet there is always a little space to throw the coin or a "seller" of photos on Polaroid to take a picture of us together.

eat: GELATO BY ORIGINI - ROMA, ITÁLIA

Procurávamos por toda a Roma os bons gelados italianos aos preços da chuva como tínhamos encontrado em Veneza e Verona. Comemos num desses que nos parecia encaixar no perfil, um pequeno café com um balcão cheio de deliciosos sabores e que não tem muito mais senão isso. Foi uma desilusão e estábamos a desistir de encontrar bons gelados em Roma até que chegámos ao Gelato by Origini.

 

We looked all over Rome for the good Italian ice cream at cheap prices like we found in Venice and Verona. We ate one of those who seemed to fit the profile,in a small cafe with a counter full of delicious flavors and do not have much more than that. It was disappointment and we were about to give up trying to find good icrecream in Rome when we found Gelato by Origini.

PLACE DE LA COMEDIE - BORDÉUS, FRANÇA

São dois os edificios que tornam esta praça uma das mais agradáveis de Bordéus, o Grand Théâtre e o Grand Hotel. Majestosos exemplos de arquitectura clássica do final do século XVIII e que estão em excelente estado de conservação. Ambos partilharam o mesmo arquitecto: Victor Louis, o mesmo que desenhou as galerias do Palais-Royal em Paris. O Grand Hotel ainda hoje funciona como Regent, é um dos mais luxuosos da cidade e é também um SPA. Um dos seus mais ilustres hóspedes foi Victor Hugo.

There are two buildings that make this square one of the nicest of Bordeaux, the Grand Theatre and the Grand Hotel. Majestic examples of classical architecture from the late eighteenth century and are in excellent condition. Both shared the same architect Victor Louis, the same who designed the galleries of the Palais-Royal in Paris. The Grand Hotel still acts as Regent, is one of the most luxurious of the city and is also a SPA. One of its most illustrious guests was Victor Hugo.

LEEDS, INGLATERRA

Chegar até Leeds é um desafio, aterrámos em Manchester e alugámos um carro para chegar até lá. Demorámos uma hora o que não é muito e conseguimos sobreviver ao facto de se conduzir do lado direito em vez do esquerdo.

Escolhemos a melhor semana para ir a Leeds a trabalho (aliás fomos a Birstall) porque foi justamente na semana passada ou seja, em plenos distúrbios em Londres e outras cidades inglesas, como a vizinha, Manchester. Surgiram rumores de que Leeds seria outra das cidades a ser atacada por grupos de delinquentes dispostos a tudo para roubar umas t-shirts de marca ou um LCD. Ainda assim saio do hotel, sozinha (os restantes preferiram descansar...) e vou explorar a cidade.

 

Getting to Leeds is a challenge, we landed in Manchester and we rented a car to get there. It took us one hour which is not much and managed to survive the fact that they drive on the right side instead of the left.
We chose the best week to go to Leeds to work (we actually went to Birstall) because it was just last week that is in full riots in London and other English cities, like neighboring Manchester. There were rumors that Leeds would be another of the cities to be attacked by groups of criminals willing to do anything to steal some t-shirts brand or an LCD. Still I left the hotel alone (the remaining preferred to rest ...) and I explored the city.

do: ARCO DE CONSTANTINO - ROMA, ITÁLIA

A primeira vez que vimos o Arco de Constantino estávamos ainda a disfrutar da nossa visita ao Coliseu.

O arco triunfal, construído para comemorar a vitória de Constantino sobre Magêncio, imperador contra imperador. Numa altura em que o Império Romano estava dividido, vários imperadores governavam zonas distintas, Magêncio era o imperador de Roma e Constantino de Gália, Hispânia e Bretanha.

 

The first time we saw the Constantine Arch we were still enjoying our tour in the Colosseum.

The triumphal arch, built to commemorate the victory of Constantine over Maxentius, emperor versus emperor. At a time when the Roman Empire was divided, several emperors ruled distinct areas, Maxentius was the emperor of Rome and Constantine was in Gaul, Britain and Hispania.

do: PLAZA DEL PILAR - ZARAGOÇA, ESPANHA

Duas visitas a Zaragoça e não me canso desta praça. Uma foi no Inverno, com muito frio e um céu cinzento, a outra em pleno Verão com algum calor e sol.

Também se recomenda visitá-la durante a noite principalmente na época mais quente do ano onde as esplanadas se enchem de gente e a praça em si de pessoas a passear, crianças a brincar, bicicletas, skates, etc..

 

Two visits to Zaragoza and I can't get tired of this square. One was in the Winter, it was cold and the sky was grey, the other one was in the Summer it was hot and sunny.

It's also recommended to visit it during the evening specially in the hottest days were the café terraces are filled with people and the square itself with people taking a stroll, kids playing, bikes, skates, etc..
