É um excelente exemplo do estilo gótico isabelino e foi o monumento que os reis, os Católicos, ofereceram a Deus pela sua vitória na Batalha de Toro, que os opunha a D. Afonso V de Portugal que procurava defender os direitos da sua sobrinha Joana de Beltreja na Guerra da Sucessão Castelhana, que a opunha a Isabel de Castela.
