do: ALHÓNDIGA - BILBAO, ESPANHA

No nosso passeio por Bilbao visitámos o Alhondiga, o centro cultural da cidade. Instalado num antigo armazém de vinho construído em 1909, deixou de funcionar nos anos 70 e ficou entregue ao abandono. Felizmente a cidade de Bilbao conseguiu recuperá-lo para utilização pública e para a promoção de eventos culturais.

On our stroll in Bilbao we visited the Alhondiga, the city's cultural center. Housed in a former wine warehouse built in 1909, it stopped working in the 70s and was left abandoned. Fortunately the city of Bilbao managed to retrieve it for public use and for the promotion of cultural events.

Tinha encontrado na revista Woman (Madame Figaro) um artigo sobre o bairro de Indautxu onde recomendavam "perder-nos"  na pastelaria artesanal de Martina de Zuricalday sem medo de cometer nenhum pecado...mas a gula...ai a gula!

 

I had found in Woman magazine (Madame Figaro) an article about the Indautxu neighborhood where they would recommend "getting lost" in the artisanal pastry of Martina de Zuricalday without being afraid of committing any sin...but the gluttony...oh the gluttony!

Outra das ruas que visitei durante a minha curta estadia em Dublin foi esta Henry Street, uma das mais conhecidas ruas de compras da cidade e que é completamente pedonal.

Caminhava pela O'Connell street quando ao chegar a Spire of Dublin virei á direita seguindo uma boa quantidade de gente que passeava pela rua áquela hora. As lojas ainda estavam abertas (mas próximas do horário de fecho) e ainda deu para entrar em algumas. É interessante o contraste dos prédios de tijolo com as fachadas coloridas das lojas, principalmente das mais pequenas.

 

Another street that I visited during my short stay in Dublin was this Henry Street, one of the most famous shopping streets in the city and that is completely pedestrian.
Walked down O'Connell street and when I arrived to the Spire of Dublín I turned to the right following a good amount of people walking down the street at that hour. The shops were still open (but close to closing time) and I was able to visit a few. It is interesting to contrast of the brick buildings with colorful facades of the shops, especially the smaller ones.

O nosso hotel ficava na Westmoreland street e bastava atravessar a Ponte O'Connell (1880) para chegar á agitada rua com o mesmo nome. Infelizmente o tempo estava tristonho e já era fim do dia, mas ainda assim havia muita gente pela rua, lojas abertas e afinal para o que se queixam os irlandeses de que sempre chove, conseguimos passear pela zona sem uma pinga.

A rua recebe o nome do senhor que vemos na primeira estátua que encontramos: Daniel O'Connell conhecido como o Libertador, um defensor nacionalista da Irlanda, mas ao longo da rua podemos encontrar outras estátuas.

 

Our hotel was on Westmoreland Street and just crossing the O'Connell Bridge(1880) you would be to get busy street with the same name. Unfortunately the weather was gloomy and it was end of the day, but still had a lot of people on the street, shops owere pen and ultimately if the Irish complain that it's always raining, we walk around the area without a drop.
The street is named after the lord we see in the first statue: Daniel O'Connell known as the Liberator, a defender of a  nationalist Ireland, but along the street we can find other statues.

Estive em Dublin a trabalho, não foi possível conhecer muito da cidade mas uma das coisas que tivémos oportunidade de fazer foi visitar a Guiness Storehouse no edificio de St. James Gate onde no século XVIII, Arthur Guiness produz a famosa cerveja com o mesmo nome.

 

I was in Dublin to work, it was not possible to visit much the city but one of things that we had opportunity to visit was the Guinness Storehouse in St. James Gate building where in the eighteenth century, Arthur Guinness produces the famous beer of the same name.

eat: TAVERNA PARIONE - ROMA, ITÁLIA

 

Depois de uma manhã visitando o Vaticano e o Castelo Sant' Angelo, precisávamos de "combustível" e queríamos algo específico...Pizza! Desde que chegámos a Roma ainda não tínhamos comido uma assim que era apenas justo exigir uma para o almoço.

Caminhávamos pela bairro de Ponte e Parioni com o objectivo de chegar á rua do Governo Vecchio onde dizem há muitas de grande qualidade mas quando lá chegámos (e já tínhamos visto esta Taverna Parione) decidimos voltar á Via de Parione e comer na primeira pizzaria que tínhamos visto. 

 

After a morning visiting the Vatican and Castel Sant 'Angelo, we needed "fuel" and wanted something specific ... Pizza! Since we arrived in Rome we had not eaten one so it was only fair to require it for lunch.
Walked through the neighborhood of Ponte and Parioni in order to get to the street of the Governo Vecchio where they say there are lots of great quality pizzas but when we got there (and we had already seen this Taverna Parione) decided to go back to Via Parione and eat in the first pizzeria that we had seen.

sleep: THE WESTIN - DUBLIN, IRLANDA

Se a minha viagem a Dublin tivesse sido de lazer não teria ficado neste hotel de cinco estrelas, teria escolhido algo mais barato até porque estaría a passear pela cidade e só lá entraría para dormir. Como fomos para uma reunião de trabalho em que fazíamos quase tudo no hotel o The Westin foi uma boa escolha mas cara!

Para além do luxo e do conforto, a sua localização é um dos pontos fortes.

 

If my trip to Dublin had been leisure I would not have stayed at this five stars hotel, I would have picked something cheaper because it would just to sleep since I would wander around the city all day. As we went to a workshop where we did almost everything in the hotel The Westin was a good choice but expensive!
Apart from the luxury and comfort, its location is one of the strengths.
