No nosso passeio de bicicleta por Paris passámos por esta praça circular rodeada de elegantes edificios e ao centro vimos uma estátua equestre que mais tarde percebemos ser do Rei Luís IV, o famoso Rei Sol.

O actual monumento ao monarca foi construído em 1828, mas o original que era do século XVII que foi construído juntamente com a praça e os seus edificios foi destruído durante a Revolução Francesa. Ao centro ergueram-se outros monumentos até que D. Carlos X ordenou a construção de uma estátua em honra ao famoso Rei Sol.

On our bike ride through Paris we passed by this circular plaza surrounded by elegant buildings and in the center we saw the equestrian statue that later we realized to be of King Louis IV, the famous Sun King
The current monument to the monarch was built in 1828, but the original was from the seventeenth century it was built along with the square and its buildings were destroyed during the French Revolution. In the center other monuments were placed here until D. Charles X ordered the construction of a statue in honor of the famous Sun King.

Com uma entrada apenas, cortesia do Roma Pass visitámos o Palatino e o Fórum Romano. Tanto um como o outro são um verdadeiro desafio para entender o que estamos a ver, aqui o aconselhável é levar um bom guia, a Lonely Planet por exemplo tem um dentro do guia de Roma que ajuda a entender melhor o que estamos a ver quando olhamos para alguma ruína do Fórum Romano.

With only one ticket, courtesy of Roma Pass visited the Palatine and Roman Forum. Both one and the other are a real challenge to understand what we are seeing here is the advisable to take a good guide, Lonely Planet has an example within the Rome guide that helps you better understand what we see when we look at a ruin of the Roman Fórum.

do: PRAÇA DO CAPITÓLIO - ROMA, ITÁLIA

Mais uma famosa praça de Roma, desta vez no Monte Capitolino entre o Forúm Romano e o antigo Campo de Marte.

No século XVI, por ordem do Papa Paulo III, Miguelangelo criou esta agradável praça que podemos contemplar depois de subir a Cordonata. No topo dessa mesma Cordonata, duas estátuas de Dioscuri, dois gémeos Castor e Pólux que apesar de terem a mesma mãe são de pais diferentes. A mãe era Leda, mulher de Tíndaro (Rei de Esparta) e foi seduzida por Zeus pai de Pólux.

Another famous square of Rome, this time in the Capitoline Hill between the Roman Forum and the ancient Campus Martius.
In the sixteenth century by order of Pope Paul III, Michelangelo created this pleasant square which we can contemplate after climbing the Cordonata. On top of that Cordonata, two statues of Dioscuri,the twins  Castor and Pollux that despite having the same mother are from different fathers. The mother was Leda, wife of Tyndareus (King of Sparta) and was seduced by Zeus father of Pollux.

Depois de visitar a Piazza di Popolo e passar pela Via Babuíno chegamos a mais uma famosa praça de Roma, a Praça de Espanha ou Piazza di Spagna. Na realidade ficámos surpreendidos porque a praça é bastante grande e não se resume apenas á zona da grande escadaria que é a mais conhecida sem dúvida.

Os famosos degraus ligam a Praça de Espanha á Praça de la Trinitá dei Monti, onde está uma igreja com o mesmo nome, de estilo renascentista e cuja construção data do século XVI. Já escadaria foi construída dois séculos mais tarde e o arquitecto foi o Francesco di Santis.

 

After visiting the Piazza di Popolo and Via Babuíno we go through one the most famous squares of Rome, Piazza di Spagna and it's Spanish steps. In fact we were surprised because the place is quite large and is not just about the grand staircase area which is undoubtedly the best known.
The famous stairs linking the Spanish Square with Trinitá la dei Monti, where a church with the same name is, with a Renaissance-style and it's building dating from the sixteenth century. The staircase was built two centuries later and by the architect Francesco di Santis.

Caminhando pelo bairro antigo (a que chamam "casco viejo medieval") chegamos á Praça de Santiago onde está a Catedral com o mesmo nome.

Esta colorida e pequena praça, está rodeada de edificios que ainda hoje guardam o seu estilo original apesar de terem sido restauradas. Ainda hoje podemos vê-la cheia de vida um claro sinal que no seu tempo de maior relevância era o ponto mais central da cidade.

A decorá-la está uma fonte junto á Catedral desenhada por Luís Paret.

 

Walking through the old neighborhood (which they call "medieval casco viejo") we got to the Plaza Santiago where is the Cathedral of the same name.
This colorful and small square is surrounded by buildings that still retain its original style despite being restored. Even today we can see it full of life a clear sign that in his time of greatest importance was the most central point of the city.
Decorating it is a fountain near the Cathedral designed by Luis Paret.

do: PARQUE DE DOÑA CASILDA - BILBAO, ESPANHA

Este agradável parque começa na Gran Via e vai até Abandoibarra, o arquitecto Ricardo Bastida (o mesmo que criou o Alhóndiga em 1909) criou um jardim ao estilo romântico inglês e um refúgio perfeito para disfrutar de alguma paz e tranquilidade no centro da cidade.

Tem alguns divertimentos lúdicos muito vocacionados para crianças como um carrossel de estilo clássico ou o tradicional parque de baloiços. 

Para os mais velhos há dois campos de basket e conta com um bom espaço de relvado onde todos podem aproveitar o bom tempo deitando-se ao sol ou simplesmente ler um livro.  

This pleasant park begins at Gran Via and runs through Abandoibarra, architect Ricardo Bastida (the same that created the Alhóndiga in 1909) created a romantic English  style garden and a perfect getaway to enjoy some peace and quiet in the city center.
It has some very entertaining amusements geared towards children as a classic carousel or the traditional park  with swings.
For the eldest two basktball courts and a good lawn space where everyone can enjoy the good weather by lying in the sun or just read a book.

MONUMENTO DOS GIRONDINOS, BORDÉUS, FRANÇA

Localizado na Praça de Quinconces, o monumento em memória dos girondinos é composto por uma coluna com uma escultura em bronze e duas grandes fontes aos seus pés. Os Girondinos eram um grupo político da época da Revolução Francesa e objectivo deste monumento é prestar homenagem aos políticos que foram perseguidos e executados durante a época do Reino do Terror.

Located in the Plaza de Quinconces, the monument in memory of the Girondins consists of a column with a bronze sculpture and two large fountains at its feet. The Girondins were a political group of the era of the French Revolution and purpose of this monument is to honor the politicians who were persecuted and executed during the time of the Reign of Terror.
