Dou voltas e voltas a pensar qual o grande encanto de Santiago de Compostela para os que não compartem a fé Cristã. Voltas e voltas a pensar qual é o real interesse da Catedral de Santiago que faz pessoas percorrerem quilómetros e quilómetros a pé para aqui chegarem. Para os que têm fé, para os que acreditam que ali estão na presença de um Apóstolo que comeu ao lado de Jesús Cristos faz todo o sentido e não haverá tantos lugares como este no mundo, mas e os outros?

Eu diría que o mesmo, sejas ou não cristão é impossível ficar indiferente á Catedral e á história que conta, impossível não ter vontade de entrar mesmo arriscando a perder mesa no restaurante que reservámos e nem é das mais bonitas que vimos, mas há todo um respeito e dedicação á sua volta que faz sentir o mesmo.

 

I go round and round thinking what is the great charm of Santiago de Compostela for those who do not share the Christian faith. Round and round thinking what is the real interest of the Cathedral of Santiago that makes people roam miles and miles on foot to reach here. For those who have faith, to those who believe that they are in the presence of an Apostle who ate beside Jesus Christ it makes total sense and there won't be many places like this in the world, but what about the others?
I would say the same, wether you are Christian or not it's impossible to remain indifferent to the Cathedral and to the story it tells, impossible not to want to get in even risking losing the table  we booked at the restaurant and it's not even the nicest we've seen, but there is a whole respect and dedication around it that makes you feel the same.

do: PLAZA DA FERRERÍA - PONTEVEDRA, ESPANHA

É talvez a maior praça da parte histórica de Pontevedra e uma das mais movimentadas já que dá acesso a ruas importantes como a dos Soportais por exemplo. A chuva afastou a gente do habitual convívio na praça.

Deve o seu nome aos ferreiros que tinham as suas lojas debaixo das arcadas dos edificios de traçado medieval, hoje são bares e restaurantes.

 

It is perhaps the largest square in the historic part of Pontevedra and already one of the busiest streets giving access to important as the Soportais for example. The rain had the usual crowd avoid the gathering in the square.
It owes its name to the blacksmiths who had their shops under the arcades of the Medieval buildings, where now you can see bars and restaurants.

Seguíamos o Caminho Português para Santiago, entrámos pela Rua dos Soportais quando chegámos a esta Praça. Cedo começo a perceber que apesar de ser bonita no Inverno o Verão teria-lhe dado outra cara, as esplanadas estariam cheias, o sol impedia que os prédios parecessem tão cinzentos.

 

We followed the Portuguese Way to Santiago, we entered the Street of Soportais when we came to this square. Soon we start to realize that despite being beautiful in winter the summer would have given it another face, the terraces would be full, the sun prevented the buildings looking so gray. 

do: PLAZA DE VERDURA - PONTEVEDRA, ESPANHA

A Plaza de Verdura é a "irmã" do meio de um trio de praças que não se pode perder em Pontevedra: Leña, Verdura e Méndez Nuñez. Talvez não seja a mais bonita das três, mas é uma das mais animadas e o lugar de alguns dos bares de "picoteo" mais conhecidos da cidade como os Maristas ou o Pintxovino.

 

The Plaza de Verdura (greens or vegetables) is the "sister" from among a trio of squares that one should not miss in Pontevedra: Leña, Verdura and Méndez Nuñez. It may not be the prettiest of the three, but it's one of the liveliest and the place of some of the most well known "picoteo" (snacking or eating "tapas") bars like the Maristas or Pintxovino.

Caminhávamos pela Calle Argensola quando descobrimos esta loja de produtos gourmet e de culinária internacionais. Andamos a tentar descubrir um fornecedor de massa para chamuças para fazer uma receita de familia e por isso decidimos entrar. Não tinha mas não consegui sair da loja sem comprar nada.

We walked down Calle Argensola when we discovered this gourmet food store and international cooking supplies. We've been trying to discover a supplier of a samosas pastry to make a family recipe and so we decided to go in. There wasn't any but I could not leave the store without buying anything.

shop: LOMOGRAPHY - MADRID, ESPANHA

Para quem achava que a fotografia analógica morreu e deu lugar á digital pode visitar a Lomography e perceber que não, que está bem viva e ali é o seu santuário. Conhecia a de Lisboa mas ainda não tinha estado na de Madrid que fica na Calle Argensola (há outra na Calle Echegaray).

For those who thought the analogical photography died and gave way to digital can visit the Lomography and realize that no, that  it is very much alive and this is it's sanctuary. I knew the store in Lisbon but had never been in Madrid which is on Calle Argensola (there's another on Calle Echegaray).

eat: MAMÁ FRAMBOISE - MADRID, ESPANHA

 

Os meus colegas de trabalho sempre me disseram: "No somos muy de dulces" mas pela multidão que se juntou num Sábado á tarde no Mamá Framboise, eu diria que os doces estão na moda. Uma "boulangerie" ao bom estilo francês serve de tudo desde de macarons a croissants recheados pasando por bolos de alta pastelaria.

E que falta que nos fazia ir um sitio assim em Madrid, onde pudéssemos lanchar como fazíamos em Portugal, aqui trocamos os scones pelos brioches mas não faz mal.

 

My coworkers always told me: "No somos muy de dulces" (We don't like so much sweet food) but the crowd that gathered in a Saturday afternoon in Mamá Framboise, I would say that the sweets are in fashion. A "boulangerie" in the proper French style serves everything from macarons to filled croissants on to high-pastry cakes.
And how we missed a place like that in Madrid, where we could have an afternoon snack as we did in Portugal, here we changed the scones by the brioches but never mind.
