eat: HOT DOG DA VILLA NO SOBE E DESCE - CASCAIS, PORTUGAL

A primeira coisa que normalmente perguntam quando se vê este Hot Dog pela primeira vez é: "Como é que se come isto?". Nós que levamos alguns tempos a comer os famosos Hot Dogs de Cascais, primeiro na carrinha que estava estacionada junto á praia, depois num centro comercial e agora na Av. Valbom, nunca conseguimos encontrar a melhor técnica. Decidimos que o importante é comer este fantástico cachorro quente completo (por pouco menos de 4€) sem ter medo de sujar a roupa ou de ter alguma foto no Facebook com a cara cheia daquele molho especial que o torna ainda melhor.

The first thing people usually ask when they see this Hot Dog first is: "How do I eat this?". We took some time to eat the famous Hot Dogs Cascais, first in the van that was parked near the beach, then in a small shopping center and now on Avenida Valbom, yet we never managed to find the best technique. We decided that the important thing is to eat this fantastic hot dog complete (for just under € 4) without fear of having stains on your clothes or to have some picture on Facebook with a face full of that special sauce that makes it even better.

eat: CAPITOLINA - MAJADAHONDA, ESPANHA

Em retrospectiva fomos a mais restaurantes italianos ou pizzarias em Majadahonda que a qualquer outro tipo, não ajuda o facto de termos ido a dois em pouco menos que uma semana. Primeiro o Rigatoni e agora o Capitolina, um que dizem os locais que é de "toda la vida". Muitos são habituais, vêm pela comida que mantém a qualidade de sempre e pelo tratamento que recebem, nós não pertencendo a esse grupo fomos igualmente bem recebidos.

Entre ficar dentro ou fora, preferimos aproveitar um dos primeiros verdadeiros días de Primavera para comer ao ar livre na sua agradável esplanada que encheu num abrir e fechar de olhos. 

In retrospect we went to more Italian restaurants and pizzerias in Majadahonda than any other kind, does not help the fact that we have gone to two in a little less than a week. First the Rigatoni and now the Capitoline, one that the locals say it is "de toda la vida". Many are usual customers, they come for the food that always keeps the same quality and the treatment they receive, although we didn't belong to this group were equally well received.
Between being inside or outside, we prefer to enjoy one of the first real days of spring to eat outdoors in its pleasant terrace that filled in the twinkling of an eye.

eat: RIGATONI - MAJADAHONDA, ESPANHA

No Dia da Mãe a familia (todos menos o gato) levou-me a almoçar ao Rigatoni. Já conhecíamos um restaurante italiano do grupo, o Pulcinella que está no centro de Madrid e que gostámos porque nos pareceu ser do mais autêntico que pode haver principalmente quando és atendido por italianos.

Este fica mais perto de casa e decidimos experimentar, se é igual ao seu "irmão" de Madrid perdemos menos tempo a ir a um bom italiano. Problema? Domingo e Dia da Mãe, estava cheio mas mesmo assim conseguimos mesa nesta esplanada lateral.

 

On Mother's Day the family (all except the cat) took me to lunch at Rigatoni. We already knew a restaurant from this Italian group, the Pulcinella at the center of Madrid and we liked because it seemed to be the most authentic that it can be especially when you the waiters are Italians.
This one is closer to home and we decided to try, if it is equal to its "brother" of Madrid we lose less time to go to a good Italian. Problem? Sunday and Mother's Day it was full but still managed to table in this side terrace.

do: PALÁCIO DO GRÃO-MESTRE - VALLETTA, MALTA

Para os que á primeira não se sentem seduzidos por Valletta recomendó visitar o Palacio do Grão-Mestre porque é mais um testemunho da riqueza histórica da ilha e em particular desta cidade. Pertenceu a um membro da familia de Jean de la Vallette, o fundador da cidade e grão-mestre da Ordem de Malta. Tal como o nome indica, serviu como residência oficial do grão-mestre e hoje é a do Presidente da República o que confirma a sua grande importancia na cidade.

 

For those who do not feel at first seduced by Valletta I recommend visiting the Palace of the Grand Master because it's a testament to the rich history of the island and this city in particular. Belonged to a family member of Jean de la Vallette, the city's founder and Grand Master of the Order of Malta. As the name implies, it served as the official residence of the Grand Master and is now the President of the Republic which confirms its great importance in the city.

do: VARANDAS DE MALTA - VALLETTA, MALTA

Tive que dividir em dois posts o que queria contar sobre a Rua da República até porque ela tem duas caras, a comercial, cheia de gente e esta que mostro aqui, o seu lado B e na minha humilde opinião, o melhor! Até aqui Valletta não me estava a deixar deslumbrada mas e fui descendo esta parte da rua elogiando o colorido das janelas até que chego ao final da rua, olho para trás e vejo que será uma das ruas (senão a rua) mais interessante do centro.

 

I had to split into two posts what I wanted to tell about the Republic Street also because it has two faces, a comercial one full of people and the one I show here,it's side B and in my humble opinion, the best! Until this place Valletta was not dazzling me and as I went down to this part of the streets praising the colorful windows until we get to the end of it, look back and I see that is problably one of the most (if not the most) interesting Street of the center.

eat: D'OFFICE - VALLETTA, MALTA

Quando passámos pela rua Arch bishop e vimos este restaurante dissémos logo: temos que vir cá jantar.  Na segunda noite em Valletta fomos com mais dois colegas italianos depois de dar uma volta por toda a oferta de restaurantes no centro histórico da cidade este foi o que eles seleccionaram.

Será difícil definir o conceito do D'Office porque diz que é um bistro mas na sua carta tem muitos pratos italianos e outros cujo ingrediente principal é algo típico de Malta.

 

When we passed by the Arch bishop street and we saw this restaurant soon we said: we have to come over for dinner. On the second night we were in Valletta with two Italian colleagues and after a walk across the offer of restaurants in the historic center of the city this is what they selected.
It's difficult to define the concept of the D'Office becauseit's a bistro but in it's menú has many Italian dishes and others whose main ingredient is something typical of Malta.

do: MEMORIAL DO CERCO A MALTA - VALLETTA, MALTA

Não sou totalmente capaz de explicar porque é que este monumento foi dos que mais marcou na nossa curta visita a Valletta. Talvez seja porque está dedicado ás sete mil vítimas do cerco á cidade durante a II Guerra Mundial ou a escultura em bronze de um soldado ou mais ainda a vista que tem para o porto e para o forte St. Angelo. Talvez seja a soma de tudo.

 

I'm not fully able to explain why this monument was the one who impacted me the most on our short visit to Valletta. Maybe because it's dedicated to e thseven thousand victims of the siege to the city during the Second World War or the bronze sculpture of a soldier or further the view that has of the port and to fort St. Angelo. Maybe it's the sum of everything.
