do: ORLOJ - PRAGA, REP. CHECA

Uma multidão esperava junto ao famoso Relógio Astronómico de Praga que a cada hora se torna numa atracção turística: a caveira (que representa a Morte) dá o sinal e em cima duas pequenas janelas abrem para mostrar alternadamente os Apóstolos.

Junto a esse mesma caveira três outras esculturas contornam o relógio: a Vaidade, a Avareza e o Turco (que representa a invasão pagã).

 

A crowd waited near the famous Astronomical Clock in Prague that every hour becomes a tourist attraction: the skull (representing Death) gives the signal and over two small windows that open to show alternately the Apostles.

Next to this same skull three other sculptures lining the clock: Vanity, Greed and Turkish (which represents the pagan invasion).

do: PRAÇA DAM - AMSTERDÃO, HOLANDA

Na mais agitada praça de Amsterdão (senão a mais) podemos encontrar dois dos edificios mais importantes do centro, um é o Koninklijk Paleis a residencia oficial da Rainha Beatriz e agora do seu filho, Rei Guilherme Alexandre. O outro é a Nieuwe Kerk, a igreja que está ao lado do Palácio e que apesar do nome, nova na realidade não é uma vez que foi construída no século XV.

 

In the busiest square in Amsterdam (if not more) we can find two of the most important buildings in the center, one is the Koninklijk Paleis the official residence of Queen Beatrix and now his son, King William Alexander. The other is the Nieuwe Kerk, a church that is next to the Palace and that despite the name, is not really new since it was built in the fifteenth century.

eat: PEGGY SUE - MAJADAHONDA, ESPANHA

Não é a primeira vez que jantamos num Peggy Sue mas é a primeira que comemos neste em Majadahonda, perto do nosso "bairro" tanto que até fomos a pé. Demorámos uns vinte minutos (não é assim tão perto eu sei) a chegar mas íamos com um apetite feroz.

Algumas coisas mudaram no Peggy Sue desde a nossa primeira visita em Madrid (ler aquí), a Peggy está um pouco mais moderna mas o conceito e o interior dos restaurantes continua fiel aos dinners dos anos 50.

 

It is not the first time we dined in Peggy Sue but is the first to eat in this one in Majadahonda near our "neighborhood" so close that we walked there. It took us about twenty minutes (it's not that close I know)  to get there but we arrived with a ferocious appetite.
Some things have changed in Peggy Sue since our first visit in Madrid (read here), Peggy is a bit more modern but the concept and the interior of the restaurant still remains faithful to the '50s dinner.

eat: TEN CON TEN - MADRID, ESPANHA

Quando fomos almoçar ao Tartan a intenção era ter ido ao Ten con Ten e já nem sou capaz de me lembrar porque é que não fomos. Fui pela primeira vez para celebrar o nosso aniversário de casamento numa ida relâmpago ao centro de Madrid, a um dia de semana e com pouco tempo para jantar. Fomos sem reserva e por volta das 20h, já estava cheio e mesmo sendo um dia onde os outros rezam que entre um cliente, aqui não havia mesa mas pelo menos conseguimos dois banquinhos no bar.

 

When we went to lunch at Tartan our intention was to actually go to Ten Ten and now I can not even remember why we couldn't. I went for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary in a lightning trip to the center of Madrid, a week day and with little time for dinner. We arrived without reservation and around 20h, it was already full and even being a day where the others places pray for a client, here there was no table but at least we got two stools at the bar.

eat: PILSVOGEL - AMSTERDÃO, HOLANDA

As duas Heineken que bebemos no Experience pediam acompanhamento, tínhamos passado por praça entre o Albert Cruypmarket e o museu da famosa marca de cerveja que tinha alguns restaurantes com boa pinta, um deles era o Pilsvogel. Nem tinha percebido que era um bar de tapas mas era exactamente o queríamos comer, a versão holandesa do conceito de tapas porque queríamos partilhar.

Apesar da chuva decidimos ficar fora, sentadinhos perto da janela onde estavam as almofadas pasmados com a descontracção dos holandeses que iam passando sem pressa enquanto caía uma carga de água. 

 

The two Heineken we drank in the Experience were asking for some company, we had passed this square between Albert Cruypmarket and the famous beer museum that had some appeling restaurants, one of them was Pilsvogel. We did not realize it was a tapas bar but it was exactly what we wanted to eat, the Dutch version of the concept of tapas because we wanted to share.
Despite the rain we decided to stay out sitting down near the window cozy in the cushins amazed with the relaxation of the Dutch that strolled without rushing despite the heavy rain.

do: BEGIJNHOF - AMSTERDÃO, HOLANDA

Andávamos ás voltas com o mapa e com o GPS, tudo indicava que estávamos perto do Begijnhof mas o que víamos não parecia ser o que procurávamos até que começámos a ver que de um edificio de tijolo entrava e saía muita gente, aproximei-me e dizia Begijnhof. Passámos a porta com a sensação de que estávamos a entrar num jardim secreto, esperava mais tranquilidade mas ali celebrava-se um casamento.

 

We were walking around with the map and GPS, it appeared that we were near the Begijnhof but what we saw did not seem to be what we were looking for until we started to see people coming in and out from a brick building, I approached and it said Begijnhof. We passed the door with the feeling that we were entering a secret garden, I hoped it would be more quiet but there was a wedding being celebrated there.

shop: ALBERT CUYPMARKT - AMSTERDÃO, HOLANDA

Quanto mais penso na escolha de hotel (e como foi uma opção cara) mais vejo que foi acertada porque estavámos ao lado do De Pijp, o animado bairro a que chamam "Quartier Latin". Uma das suas ruas mais agitadas é a Albert Cuyp onde de segunda a sábado podemos visitar o seu mercado.

Dizem que o melhor dia para ir é o Sábado, há mais gente, mais agitação e também mais bancas, foi precisamente o dia que fomos e nem mesmo a chuva impedia que se fizesse a compra aqui.

 

The more I think about the choice of hotel (and it was an expensive option) I see that was more because we were right next to De Pijp, the lively neighborhood they call "Quartier Latin". One of its busy streets is the Albert Cuyp Monday to Saturday where we can visit your market.
They say the best day to go is Saturday, there are more people, more excitement and also more stalls, it was precisely the day we went and not even the rain made ​​it impossible to make a purchase here.
