do: VILA ROMANA DE PLA DE PALOL - PLATJA D'ARO, ESPANHA

Para os que pensam que Platja D'Aro se resume a praia podem visitar (gratuitamente) a Vila Romana de Pla de Palol que está a caminho da Cala Rovira. As escavações que podemos hoje apreciar são uma pequena amostra de uma grande vila romana que aqui existiu no século I dC. 

For those who think Platja D'Aro boils down to the beach they can visit (for free) the Roman Villa Pla de Palol that is on the access to Cala Rovira. The excavations that we enjoy today are a small sample of a large Roman villa that existed here in the first century AD.

eat: PAPA PAELLA - PLATJA D'ARO, ESPANHA

Não somos os maiores fãs de paella principalmente quando é para comer fora mas o Papa Paella já nos tinha chamado a atenção no primeiro dia que passámos por esta rua e decidimos experimentar. No dia em que fomos estava vazio, algo que fazia saltar o sinal de alarme já que tantos outros restaurantes na rua estavam cheios, á primeira vista o preço pode afastar as pessoas mas no geral comemos muito bem a um preço regular.

We are not the biggest paella fans especially when it is to eat out but  the Papa Paella already had drawn our attention on the first day we went through this street and decided to try. In the day we went there it was empty, something that makes the alarm jump since so many other restaurants on the street were full, at first glance the price may turn people off but overall we ate very well at a regular price.

do: CALA ROVIRA - PLATJA D'ARO, ESPANHA

A Cala Rovira fica a uns cinco minutos a pé do hotel onde estávamos alojados e foi das que mais visitámos na nossa estadia. É verdade que ainda está muito perto do centro urbano de Platja D'Aro e por isso tem mais gente mas se evitamos o fim de semana é uma boa praia com bastante espaço para todos.

O acesso é bastante fácil o que faz que seja uma excelente opção para levar crianças.

The Cala Rovira is a five minute walk from the hotel where we were staying and it was the most visited on our stay. It is true that is still very close to the urban center of Platja D'Aro and so it has more people but if one avoids the weekend it's a good beach with plenty of space for everyone.

Access is fairly easy which makes it an excellent option for taking children.

sleep: APARTHOTEL CIUTAT DE PALOL - PLATJA D'ARO, ESPANHA

A primeira vez que passámos férias em Platja D'Aro na Costa Brava escolhemos um modesto apartamento mais perto do Porto de Recreio que ficava na ponta oposta ao local que escolhemos este ano, o Aparthotel Ciutat de Palol. Foram vários os motivos para escolhê-lo, o primeiro porque queríamos um hotel perto de uma praia mais pequena (a Cala Rovira) e que fosse mais agradável que a principal, depois por toda a infrasestrutura do hotel desde as suas piscinas passando pelo restaurante com comida take-away.

The first time we spent our holiday in Platja D'Aro on the Costa Brava we chosen a more modest apartment near the marina at the opposite end of the place we chose this year, the Aparthotel Ciutat de Palol. There were several reasons to chose it, the first because we wanted a hotel near a smaller beach (Cala Rovira) and it was more enjoyable than the main one, then the hotel structure  from its pools through the restaurant with take-away.

ROCAMBOLESC - PLATJA D'ARO, ESPANHA

Os irmãos Roca do famoso restaurante El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considerado o melhor restaurante do mundo) decidiram transformar o seu carrinho de sobremesas numa gelataria ambulante, pelo menos essa foi a ideia original mas acabaram por "estacioná-lo" em duas lojas: uma em Girona e esta em Platja D'Aro que eu tive o privilégio de visitar...duas vezes.

 

The Roca brothers of the famous restaurant El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considered the best restaurant in the world) decided to transform their dessert cart into a moving icecream parlour, at least that was the original idea but eventually they had to"park it" in two stores : one in Girona and this one Platja D'Aro I had the privilege of visiting ... twice.

do: PRAIA LA FOSCA - COSTA BRAVA, ESPANHA

Fomos á La Fosca já da parte da tarde depois de uma decepcionante viagem até a Jonquera onde diziam que encontraríamos autênticas "pechinchas" em perfumes, etc.. e afinal encontrámos meia dúzia de lojas a venderem o mesmo e nem achámos os preços por aí além. Necessitávamos de uma boa tarde de Praia para o compensar e La Fosca não desiludiu, tinha apenas um defeito não conseguimos estacionar sem ter que pagar.

 

We went to La Fosca only in the afternoon after a disappointing trip to Jonquera where some said we would find true "bargains" in perfumes, etc. .. and finally we found half a dozen shops all selling the same and  in neither we felt the prices where that low. We needed a good afternoon in the beach to compensate for this and did La Fosca did not disappoint, had only one fault we could not park without having to pay.

do: PRAIA DA EMPURIABRAVA - COSTA BRAVA, ESPANHA

Estamos a uma semana de ir de férias, o ano passado pelo nascimento do nosso segundo filho ficámos sem as tradicionais férias de Verão passadas na praia. Este ano decidimos voltar á Costa Brava que visitámos em Julho de 2011. Nunca cheguei a ter muito tempo para publicar aqui as praias que onde disfrutámos do bom tempo quando lá estivémos e decidi recuperar esses posts agora. O primeiro é com a Praia da Empuriabrava.

 

We're one week away to go on vacation, last year because of the birth of our second child we were without the traditional summer holidays spent in beach. This year we decided to exit to Costa Brava which we visited in July 2011. I never really had much time to post here the beaches where we enjoy the good weather when we were there and decided to recover these posts now. The first is of the Empuriabrava Beach.
