do: VALE DOS CAÍDOS - SAN LORENZO DE EL ESCORIAL, ESPANHA

Acabo de ver uma noticia sobre a campa de Francisco Franco que está na Basilica que visitámos este fim de semana no Vale dos Caídos, ainda hoje o monumento está envolto em polémica e volta aos noticiários porque o governo pondera devolver os restos mortais de Franco á sua familia retirando-o do lugar que mandou construir em honra aos que morreram durante a Guerra Civil Espanhola, segundo li de ambos os lados.

 

I just saw a news report about Francisco Franco's grave, who is in the Basilica we visited this weekend in the Valley of the Fallen, today the monument is shrouded in controversy and is back on the headlines because the government ponders to return the remains of Franco to his family taking it from the place he had built in honor of those who died during the Spanish Civil War, that according to what I red were from both sides.

eat: 081 NAPOLI - EL ESCORIAL, ESPANHA

Quando vi que este Domingo o tempo ia oferecer-nos um céu limpo não hesitei em planificar um passeio para os lados da serra e aproveitar para conhecer o Valle de los Caídos. Pesquisei na internet uma opção de um bom restaurante na zona do El Escorial mas que não fosse muito caro...parecía missão impossível mas encontrámos o 081 Napoli.

É mais um restaurante italiano a juntar á nossa lista, gerido por italianos foi como se estivéssemos a comer lá porque as pizzas eram de boa qualidade e foi em conta porque pagámos 14€ por pessoa.

 

When I saw that this Sunday the weather was going to offer us a clear sky I did not hesitate to plan a trip to the mountain and get to know the Valley of the Fallen. I searched the internet for a good option restaurant in the area of ​​El Escorial but that was not too expensive ... it looked like mission impossible but we found the 081 Napoli.
It's an Italian restaurant to join to our list, run by Italians and it was as if we were eating there because the pizzas were of good quality and at a average price because we paid around 14€ per person.

eat: ALMA LUSA - MADRID, ESPANHA

O plano para o nosso Sábado incluía almoçar em Madrid e optámos pelo o Alma Lusa. Já antes tínhamos passado por esta rua quando fomos ao brunch da Revoltosa no bairro da Chueca e ficámos de experimentar. Claro está que nunca mais nos lembrámos e ontem num blog vi umas fotos que me levaram ao website do fotógrafo Bruno Rascão e ao video que fez sobre o restaurante português na capital espanhola.

 

The plan for our Saturday included lunch in Madrid and we opted for the Alma Lusa. We had passed this street before when we went to have brunch at the Revoltosa in the neighborhood of Chueca and decided to give it a try today. It is clear that we forgot it and in a blog I saw yesterday there were some pictures that led me to the website of photographer Bruno Rascão and the video he made about this Portuguese restaurant in the Spanish capital.

eat: GINOS - MAJADAHONDA, ESPANHA

Quando decidi escrever este blog quería fazer primeiro para partilhar e registrar as minhas experiências e depois recomendar ajudando a quem visita os mesmos lugares a terem algumas referências porque é a forma como eu pesquiso na WWW. Creio que o Ginos é um bom exemplo de um post que quero que fique como registro de um restaurante mas não será um sitio que recomendó a quem visita Madrid porque afinal quem o faz procura algo mais genuíno. Ginos pertence a uma grande cadeia de restaurantes que se chama VIPS, a sua principal vantagem é que escolhes os teus prato favoritos e voltas porque têm sempre o mesmo sabor, a sua qualidade (não sendo espectacular) difícilmente muda.

 

When I decided to write this blog I first wanted to share and record my experiences and then help by recommending to anyone visiting the same places to have some references because it's how I search the WWW. I believe Ginos is a good example of a post that I want to record a restaurant but not exactly recommend it to anyone visiting Madrid because after all one does demand something more genuine. Ginos belongs to a large chain of restaurants called VIPS, its main advantage is that you have your favorite dish and always comeback because they keep the same taste, the quality (not being spectacular) hardly changes.

do: MUSEU DE SERRALVES - PORTO, PORTUGAL

Sentadas a tomar o brunch no Grande Hotel do Porto começámos a planear a nossa tarde que parecia estar comprometida pela chuva e tínhamos claro que queríamos ir a um museu, o primeiro nome foi o da Fundação de Serralves. É um museu de arte contemporânea cujo projecto de arquitectura este a cargo de Álvaro Siza.

 

Sitting down having brunch at Grande Hotel do Porto we started to plan our afternoon that seemed to be compromised by rain and clear that we wanted to go to a museum, the first name that came up was of the Serralves Foundation. It is a contemporary art museum whose architectural Project was designed by Alvaro Siza.

do: PARQUE SERRALVES - PORTO, PORTUGAL

O bilhete do Museu dá acesso á Casa e ao Parque que foi a minha parte preferida de todo o complexo Fundação Serralves. Porque é a junção de propriedades que o Conde de Vizela foi adquirindo e em alturas diferentes, o parque tem zonas distintas algumas do século XIX e outras que foram construídas na mesma altura que a casa.

É talvez um dos locais mais românticos da cidade, excelente para planos de fim de semana mas de preferencia para dias mais soleados que o que apanhámos quando o visitámos.

The Museum ticket also gives access to the House and the Park which was my favorite part of the whole complex Serralves Foundation. Because it is the junction of the Count of Vizela's properties that were acquired at different times, the park ended up having distinct areas some of the nineteenth century and others were built at the same time as the house.
It is perhaps one of the most romantic  places in the city, a great plan  for the weekend but preferably in days with more sun tan the one we had when we visited.

do: CASA DE SERRALVES - PORTO, PORTUGAL

É um dos melhores exemplos da arquitectura "Art Déco" do país e um dos monumentos mais relevantes da cidade do Porto. Tenho que admitir que não é o meu estilo arquitectónico preferido mas a casa não deixa de ser muito interesante pela sua história, por quem nela viveu e pelo o que é hoje.

Começou por ser propriedade do segundo Conde de Vizela, filho de um dos maiores empresários fabris do país que encomendou a obra a Charles Siclis que a terminou a 1944.

 

It is one of the finest examples of architecture "Art Deco" in the country and one of the most important monuments of the city of Porto. I have to admit is not my favorite architectural style but the house is nonetheless very interesting for its history, for those who lived in it and by what it is today.
Began to be property of the second Earl of Vizela, son of one of the country's largest manufacturing entrepreneurs who commissioned the work to Charles Siclis that ended in 1944.
