No nosso primeiro dia em Florença saímos do hotel á procura dos monumentos icónicos da cidade: Ponte Vecchio e o Duomo. A beleza da cidade está na sua riqueza arquitectónica que se conservou ao longo de séculos e quando chegámos á Praça da República não deixei de sentir que algo ali não somava ao tudo o que tínhamos visto antes. Esta é uma zona mais moderna sem a opulência de outros pontos de interesse mas não deixa de transmitir a riqueza da cidade através dos elegantes edificios que a rodeiam.

 

On our first day in Florence we left the hotel looking for the iconic monuments of the city: Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo. The beauty of the city lies in its architectural wealth that has been preserved for centuries and when we reached the Square of the Republic I couldn't help feleling that something there didn't add up to what we had seen before. This is a more modern area without the opulence from other interesting places but it does not stop to convey the wealth of the city through the elegant buildings that surround it.

do: CENTRO HISTÓRICO - PEÑAFIEL, ESPANHA

Fomos visitar Peñafiel pelo seu Castelo mas ainda bem que decidimos parar antes no centro histórico de Peñafiel. Tinha visto algumas fotografías e tinha muita curiosidade de conhecer a Plaza del Coso. Esta praça de origem medieval que é hoje utilizada para eventos é conhecida pelas suas elaboradas varandas em madeira construídas no século XVIII.

 

We were visiting for its Peñafiel Castle but thankfully decided to stop before the historic center of Peñafiel. Had seen some photographs and was very curious to know the Plaza del Coso. This square of medieval origin which is now used for events is known for its elaborate wooden balconies built in the eighteenth century.

Tal como os navegadores dos utilizaram a bussola para descobrir novos lugares neste mundo, o TripAdvisor ajuda-nos a encontrar lugares que nunca o conseguiríamos fazer sem a sua ajuda e o Alabrasa foi um deles. Obrigado. E gostámos tanto que ficou no ar uma pergunta: porque é que não podemos ter um Alabrasa em Madrid? Boa comida, com preços razoáveis tinha tudo para ser um éxito na capital.

 

Like seaman used the compass to discover new places in the world, TripAdvisor helps us find places that we could never do so without it's help and Alabrasa was one. Thank you. And we liked it so much that one question was suspended in the air: why can't we have a Alabrasa in Madrid? Good food, reasonably priced it has everything to be a success in the capital.

do: CASTELO DE PEÑAFIEL - ESPANHA

Assim que vimos que o sol ia espreitar este fim de semana não hesitámos em fazer um passeio. Visitar o Castelo de Peñafiel faz parte dos nossos planos para este ano para explorar os muitos castelos medievais que se podem encontrar em Espanha, uma forma de fazer passeios com os miúdos enquanto aprendem um pouco de história (bom na realidade só um deles aprenderá alguma coisa porque o outro ainda nem fala).

 

We saw that the sun was peeking this weekend and we didn't hesitate to go out. Visiting the Castle of Peñafiel is part of our plans for this year to explore the many medieval castles to be found in Spain, one way to do trips with the kids while they learn a little history (well actually only one of them will learn something because the other doesn't even speak yet).

Uma boa parte da grande história e riqueza de Florença está ligada ao comércio e a própria cidade é um centro comercial ao ar livre com uma oferta variada do barato ao luxuoso, do  artesanal ao industrial. A Via degli Strozzi é onde podemos encontrar as lojas de luxo de marcas como Bulgari, Cartier, Gucci, Zadig & Voltaire para além de algumas marcas locais.

 

A good part of the great history and wealth of Florence is linked to trade and the city itself is an outdoor shopping center with a range of inexpensive to luxurious, from artisanal to the industrial. Via degli Strozzi is where we can find the luxury shops of brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, Gucci, Zadig & Voltaire in addition to some local brands.

do: JARDIM BARDINI - FLORENÇA, ITÁLIA

É difícil comparar o jardim Bardini ao Boboli, eu gostei dos dois mas são diferentes. O Bardini é mais pequeno, íntimo e tem uma das melhores vistas sobre Florença. Descemos a Costa de San Girogio para aqui chegar e não sabíamos muito bem o que íamos encontrar. O primeiro que vemos é o pequeno palácio propriedade de um coleccionador de arte, Stefano Bardini que no inicio do século XX o adquiriu e reabilitou. A sua coleção é o tema da exposição do Museu Bardini.

 

It is difficult to compare the Bardini Garden with the Boboli, I liked both but they are different. The Bardini is smaller, intimate and has one of the best views of Florence. We went down the coast from San Girogio to get here and we did not know very well what we would find. The first we see is the small palace owned by an art collector Stefano Bardini that early in the twentieth century acquired and rehabilitated it's. It's art collection is the theme of the exhibition of the Bardini Museum.

eat: CANTINA DEL GELATO - FLORENÇA, ITÁLIA

Será muito mau só pensar em pizzas e gelados quando vou a Itália? Será redutor? Acredito que sim. Mas não consigo meter o pé nestas terras sem comer um ou dois gelados todos os días, de preferencia em sitios diferentes para novas experiências de sabores. A Cantina del Gelato estava na minha lista mas não sabia muito bem onde era e ao descer dos jardins Bardini quis o destino que nos encontrássemos.

 

Is it very bad that I only think of pizza and ice cream when I go to Italy? Does it ? I believe so. But I can not get a foot in these lands without eating one or two ice cream a day, preferably in different places to experience new flavors. The Cantina del Gelato was in my list but was not sure where it was and coming down from the Bardini Gardens fate wanted us to meet.
