eat: CAFÉ BABEL - TORRELODONES, ESPANHA

Descobrimos o Café Babel através do site Con el Morro Fino (http://www.conelmorrofino.com/) e como fica relativamente perto da zona onde vivemos decidimos experimentar. Tivémos que esperar pelo fim do brunch (termina ás 14h) para conseguir mesa. Já sentados abrimos o menú e descobrimos que tinham uma marca de cerveja que conhecemos bem: a Super Bock.

 

We discovered Café Babel through the site Con el Morro Fino (http://www.conelmorrofino.com/) and as it is relatively close to the area where we live we decided to try it. We had to wait for the end of brunch (ends at 14h) to get table. Once seated we opened the menu and found they had a brand of beer that we know very well: Super Bock.

Para aproveitar melhor o dia completo que tínhamos em Marraquexe, decidimos apanhar um bus Turistico com Hop-on and Hop-off para poder visitar o máximo de monumentos possível sem ter que andar muito. O primeiro da nossa rota foi o Jardins da Menara construídos no século XII e aos quais quatro séculos mais tarde se juntou o pavilhão que vemos junto á piscina.

 

To better enjoy the full day we had in Marrakech, we decided to take a Tourist bus with Hop-on Hop-off and to be able to visit as many monuments as possible without having to walk too much. The first of our route was the Menara Gardens built in the twelfth century, to which four centuries later the pavillion we see near the pool was built.

eat: TERRASSE DES ÉPICES - MARRAKECH, MARROCOS

Caminhámos pelo zoco (suq ou souk) em busca de este restaurante, ainda nos perdemos pelo labirinto das ruas estreitas mas conseguimos chegar a este pequeno paraíso de tranquilidade. O nome já diz o suficiente, é um terraço com uma grande esplanada com uma decoração entre o tradicional e o moderno mas acolhedora. Foi algo complicado acomodar um grupo de cerca de dezasseis pessoas mas conseguiram numa pequena salinha privada das muitas que tinham.

 

We walked the souk (suq or souk) in search of this restaurant, still lost in the maze of narrow streets but managed to find this little haven of tranquility. The name says enough, is a rooftop with a large terrace with a tradicional and modern decoration but cozy. It was complicated to accommodate a group of about sixteen people but managed a small private parlor of the many they had.

do: TUMBAS DE SAADI - MARRAKECH, MARROCOS

Uma entrada para visitar as Tumbas da dinastia Saadi custa 10 dirhams (aproximadamente 1€), uma valor que vale a pena pagar e pelo estado de conservação deu-me vontade de dar mais para ajudar. Foram construídas no século XVI e foram recebendo membros desta familia real até ao século XVII altura em que começou a dinastía Alaouite que ainda hoje governa em Marrocos.

Na altura da transição fecharam as tumbas sem nunca as destruir mas também sem qualquer tipo de conservação até que no ano de 1917 foram redescobertas e abertas ao público.

 

An entry to visit the tombs of Saadi dynasty costs 10 dirhams (about 1 €) a value that is worth paying and it's condition made ​​me want to give more just to help. Were built in the sixteenth century and was receiving members of the royal family until the seventeenth century when the Alaouite dynasty  began and still rules in Morocco.
At the time of transition closed their graves without ever destroying them but also without any maintenance until the year 1917 they were rediscovered and opened to the public.

do: MESQUITA KOUTOUBIA - MARRAKECH, MARROCOS

Abd al-Mumin foi o primeiro califa do Califado Almóada e o homem responsável pelo inicio da construção desta mesquita, o seu desejo era que fosse uma das maiores na altura mas não viveu para ver a obra final. O seu Minarete de quase 70 metros de altura foi modelo para os que podemos ver em Rabat e em Sevilha (a Giralda).

 

Abd al-Mumin was the first Caliph of the Almohad Caliphate and the man responsible for starting the construction of this mosque, his wish was that it was one of the largest at the time but did not live to see the final work. Its minaret nearly 70 feet tall was the model for the ones what we can see in Rabat and Seville (the Giralda).

eat: LA TABLE DE MARRAKECH - MARRAKECH, MARROCOS

Este restaurante está junto á entrada para o Palácio da Bahía, chamou a nossa atenção pela sua esplanada no piso superior e pela ementa que tinham cá fora com um menú do dia por 60 dirhams (aproximadamente 6€) por pessoa, não tínhamos nenhuma recomendação mas ainda assim decidimos experimentar e acabámos por ter uma agradável experiência.

 

This restaurant is near the entrance to the Palace of Bahia, caught our attention for its terrace on the top floor and also by the menu they had outside with a menu of the day for 60 dirhams (about 6 €) per person, but we had no recommendation still decided to try and ended up having a pleasant experience.

do: PALÁCIO DA BAHIA - MARRAKECH, MARROCOS

Tinha muita curiosidade de conhecer este Palácio cujo o nome significa o Favorito. Foi construido no século XIX em várias fases e por dois importantes vizirs, o primeiro Si Moussa que foi conselheiro do Sultão Sidi Mohammed ben Abder e depois pelo o seu filho Ba Ahmed.

Era utilizado para sua residência e estava dividido em vários apartamentos que na sua altura diziam ser bastante luxuosos e onde se alojavam as suas mulheres.

 

I was very curious to discover this palace whose name means the Favourite. It was built in the nineteenth century in various stages and by two importantes vizirs, the first Si Moussa who advised the Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abder and then by his son Ahmed Ba.
Was used as their residence and was divided into several apartments on it's day they said to be quite luxurious and where they lodged their wives.
