do: MUSEU CAIXAFORUM - MADRID, ESPANHA

Aproveitámos para sair mais cedo numa sexta-feira para ir ao museu CaixaForum que fica perto do Paseo del Prado e que faz parte de um grupo de museus que incluem o Thyssen, o Prado e o Reina Sofia que completam a oferta cultural concentrando-se a poucos passos uns dos outros. Foi inaugurado em 2008 e é um espaço que promove exposições temporais como as duas que fomos ver: Pixar e Génesis de Sebastião Salgado.

I took an opportunity to leave early on a Friday to go to the CaixaForum museum that is located in the Paseo del Prado and is part of a group of museums that include the Thyssen, Prado and Reina Sofia to complete the cultural offer concentrated just steps of each other. It opened in 2008 and is a space that promotes temporary exhibitions as the two that we saw: Pixar and Genesis by Sebastião Salgado.

eat: O FIORDE - TIRES, PORTUGAL

É sempre bom voltar a um sitio onde tu tens uma história conjunta. Cresci visitando o Fiorde nos almoços de Domingo, a comer a picanha e as farófias, ou arroz do pato e o leite creme. Lembro-me do primeiro dono, de como sempre vinha á mesa perguntar se estava tudo bem, dos empregados que te contavam a história da sua vida e de um pouco de esse legado que vai resistindo aos tempos que sendo de crise, são fatais para muitos sitios como este.

 

It's always nice to come back to a place where you have a joint history. I grew up visiting the Fiorde on Sunday lunches, eating the "picanha" steak and Farófias, duck  rice and the "leite creme" (custard). I remember the first owner, how often he came to the table to ask if everything was okay, employees who told you the story of their lifes and a bit of that legacy is  resisting in these times of crisis, that are fatal to many places like this.

Visitámos o Entretanto depois de conhecer o Embaixada que tem o mesmo conceito, um espaço comercial instalado no antigo palácio lisboeta dividido em várias salas onde marcas portuguesas podem vender as suas criações. Fica também na Rua Politécnica no Principe Real e junto á entrada está o Prego da Peixaria o que ajuda a um plano de compras aqui rematando com um delicioso prego para matar a fome.

 

We visited Entretanto after discovering the Embaixada that has the same concept, a commercial space located in an old Lisbon palace divided into several rooms where Portuguese brands can sell their creations. Is also on the Rua do Politécnico in Principe Real and near the entrance is the Prego da Peixaria which helps the shopping  here finishing with a delicious prego.

Quando fomos dar um passeio ao Principe Real e passámos pela loja da Lisbonlovers não resistimos, entrámos e claro, comprámos. A melhor alternativa á tradicional loja de "souvenirs", aqui Lisboa é uma marca de design respeitando os seus valores e os seus símbolos em ímans, aventais, t-shirts, postais, etc.. O espelho de uma cidade que se renova sem nunca renunciar a sua identidade.

 

When we went for a walk to the Principe Real and walked by the Lisbonlovers Store we could not resist, we got in and of course we bought something. The best alternative to a traditional souvenirs store, Lisbon here is a brand of design respecting their values ​​and their symbols in magnets, aprons, t-shirts, cards, etc. .. The mirror of a city that renews itself without ever renounce it's identity.

eat: LOST IN - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Já tinha ouvido falar muito sobre a esplanada do Lost In e da vista maravilhosa (e relaxante) que tem para a cidade de Lisboa, aproveitando o tempo livre que tínhamos decidimos ir lanchar. Infelizmente quando chegámos não conseguimos apanhar uma dessas mesas com boa vista mas ainda assim ficámos num confortável sofá e já estava a sentir o espírito Zen que tem o espaço.

 

I had heard a lot about the terrace of Lost In and of it's wonderful (and relaxing) view over the city of Lisbon, taking advantage of the free time we had decided to go there for an afternoon snack. Unfortunately when we arrived we could not get one of those tables with a good view but still we were on a comfortable sofa and I was already feeling the Zen spirit of this place.

do: TORRE DE BELÉM - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Parece incrível viver tantos anos em Lisboa e nunca ter visitado o interior da Torre de Belém, como não fui em nenhuma visita da escola também não fiz nenhum esforço por visitá-la depois. Porquê? Nem sei explicar, ela sempre esteve ali no seu sitio e eu passeava muito á sua volta, via desde o comboio quando ia de Cascais a Lisboa e só quando fui viver para Madrid, senti que afinal deveria conhecê-la melhor. E estava um dia muito bom para o fazer...

 

It seems incredible that I lived many years in Lisbon and have never visited the interior of the Tower of Belém, as I was never on one of it's visits from school and also made ​​no effort to visit it later. Why? Can't really explain, it was always there in this place  and I walked a lot around it, via the train when going from Cascais to Lisbon and only when I moved to Madrid, I felt that after all I should know it better. And it was a very good day to do it...

eat: CHOUPANA CAFFE - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Quando comprei um guia da Timeout com o resumo do ano um dos brunch recomendados era o da Choupana Caffe e porque o nome me traz á memoria um outro familiar (de um outro restaurante) achei que as duas coisas estavam relacionadas. Parece que não a ver pelo o aspecto do Caffe na Avenida da República. Seguindo a mesma linha de uma nova geração de pastelarias com uma imagem cuidada e moderna, é a promessa de bolos, croissants e pãezinhos de fabrico próprio que parece ser a chave do êxito.

 

When I bought the Timeout guide with the summary of the year one of the recommended brunch was the one from Choupana (Hut) Caffe and because the name reminds me of another familiar one (another restaurant) I thought the two things were related. It seems not judging by the look of this Caffe on Avenue of the Republic. Following the same line of a new generation of pastry with a careful and modern image is the promise of cakes, croissants and home-made biscuits which seems to be the key to success.
