do: MUSEU DO FERROCARRIL - MADRID, ESPANHA

A primeira vez que visitei o Museu do Ferrocarril foi para conhecer o Mercado dos Motores e a segunda foi durante um evento do TrenBrick 2014 que decorreu este mês de Outubro. Este último por ser mais pequeno e com menos gente para ver permitiu-nos conhecer melhor a essência do Museu e a história dos comboios em Espanha. Está instalado na antiga Estação de Comboios de Delicias que abriu no final do século XIX e deixou de funcionar em 1971 sendo depois transformada no museu que vemos hoje.

 

The first time I visited the Museo del Ferrocarril was to go to the Mercado dos Motores and the second was during an event of the TrenBrick 2014 held this October. The latter because it was  smaller and less crowded enabled us to know more about the essence of the museum and the history of trains in Spain. Is housed in the former Delicias Train Station which opened in the late nineteenth century and ceased it's activity in 1971 after being transformed into the museum we see today.

Finalmente ficámos a saber porque é tão difícil conseguir mesa no La Maruca, uma carta simples com pratos que são grandes acertos e um excelente ambiente com uma decoração acolhedora fazem deste restaurante o êxito. Fomos numa segunda-feira e estava cheio o que confirma o fenómeno.

Está dividido em três espaços, logo há entrada está uma pequena (e igualmente concorrida) esplanada, depois ao descer uns degraus chegámos á sala principal mas ainda há outra no piso de baixo.

 

Finally we learned why it is so hard to get table at La Maruca, a simple menú with dishes that are big hits and a great atmosphere with a warm decor make this restaurant a success. We went on a Monday and it was full which confirms the phenomenon.
Is divided into three spaces, there is a small (and equally crowded) terrace at the entrance, then we descended a few steps into the main room but there is another on the lower floor.

Vi há pouco tempo o filme "Chef" de John Favreu sobre um cozinheiro de um bom restaurante que recebe uma má crítica e perde o trabalho, volta á origem da sua paixão pela cozinha através da simplicidade da comida de rua viajando com a sua renovada roulote vendendo deliciosas sandes Cubano. Gostei do filme, da sua relação com o filho e reencontro com a verdadeira essência da comida, tinha tanta vontade de experimentar algo assim que quando vi na web todo o burburinho á volta do Madreat fomos a correr.

 

I recently saw the movie "Chef" from John Favreu about a cook of a good restaurant that gets a bad review and loses the job, goes back to the source of his passion for cooking through the simplicity of street food traveling with his renewed caravan selling delicious Cuban sandwiches. I liked the film, his relationship with his son and his reunion with the true essence of food, I was so eager to try something like that that when I saw on the web the buzz around Madreat I went running.

Passando a "fronteira" da M30 chegámos a Puente de Vallecas onde está o parque do Cerro del Tío Pío que é sem dúvida o que tem as melhores vistas sobre a cidade de Madrid. Foi uma excelente final de tarde com os mais pequenos que aproveitaram para brincar na zona infantil e depois subimos a um dos cerros para ver o pôr do sol. Nesse momento as colinas ficam mais concorridas e o mais comum é levar um piquenique para aproveitá-lo da melhor maneira.

 

Passing the "frontier" of the M30 we arrived at the Puente de Vallecas where the park Cerro del Tío Pío is, it is undoubtedly the one that has the best views over the city of Madrid. It was a great end of the day with the little ones who played in the kid's zone and then we went up to one of the hills to watch the sunset. At that time the hills are the busiest and the most common is to take a picnic to enjoy it the best way.

eat: MESÓN LAS CUADRAS DE ROCINANTE - ALCALÁ DE HENARES, ESPANHA

Em Alcalá de Henares qualquer viajante se sentirá bem recebido principalmente quando falamos de comida porque das duas experiências que tive na cidade comi sempre bem. Desta vez experimentámos o Mesón Las Cuadras de Rocinante - o cavalo de Dom Quixote. Foi durante o Mercado Cervantino e havia uma multidão na rua, mas fomos cedo e optámos por ficar dentro em vez da sua esplanada que já estava cheia.

 

In Alcalá de Henares any traveler will feel welcome especially when it comes to food because in the two experiences I've had in town we always ate well. This time we tried the Meson Las Cuadras Rocinante - the horse of Don Quixote. It was during the Cervantino Market and there was a crowd in the street, but we were there early and decided to stay inside instead of it's terrace which was already full.

Todos os anos em Outubro decorre em Alcalá de Henares, a Semana Cervantina em honra a Miguel Cervantes que dizem ter nascido nesta cidade. A sua maior obra Don Quixote de La Mancha é o tema de este evento que faz circular mais de cem mil pessoas pelas ruas do centro histórico de Alcalá. Nós fomos ao último fim de semana e foi uma agradável surpresa, já tinha estado em mercados medievais mas este tem uma outra dimensão.

 

Every year in October held in Alcalá de Henares, Cervantina Week (Semana Cervantina) in honor of Miguel Cervantes that is said to have been born in this city. His greatest work Don Quixote of La Mancha is the theme of this event that over a hundred thousand people circulate through the streets of the historic center of Alcalá. We went there last weekend and it was a pleasant surprise, I had been in medieval markets but this has another dimension.

Há algum tempo que o Sushi Shop da Serrano me despertava curiosidade, mais ainda depois de ver uma em Paris e quando uma reunião de trabalho me levou ao Bairro de Salamanca não hesitei em experimentar. São várias a cidades europeias que contam com este franchising desde Nova Iorque, Londres, Bruxelas, Barcelona, Milão entre outras. O espaço na Serrano tem a opção de Take-away e um restaurante.

For some time the Sushi Shop of Serrano was generating some curiosity even more after seeing one in Paris and when a meeting took me to the neighborhood of Salamanca I did not hesitate to try it. There are various European cities that rely on this franchise from New York, London, Brussels, Barcelona, Milan and others. The space in Serrano has the option to take-away and restaurant.
