CHICAGO THEATRE DISTRICT - CHICAGO, EUA

São várias as imagens emblemáticas relacionadas com Chicago que tenho na minha cabeça uma delas é o reclamo luminoso do teatro mais antigo da cidade, símbolo da zona de entretenimento. Achei que as ruas do Teatre District não eram tão luminosas como a Broadway de Nova Iorque mas é oferta é igualmente interessante e claramente é algo que os que aqui vivem valorizam muito. As noites de musicais e peças de teatro animam a zona dentro do Loop, enchem as ruas de gente mesmo em días normalmente menos agitados.

 

There are several Chicago-related emblematic images I have in my head one is the bright claim of the oldest theater in town, symbol of the entertainment district. I thought the Teatre District streets were not as bright as the Broadway of New York but its offer is also interesting and clearly is something that those who live here highly value. The musical evenings and plays enliven the area inside the loop, people fill the streets even in days usually less agitated.

CORNER BAKERY - CHICAGO, EUA

É inevitável entrar no Corner Bakery e comparar com o Starbucks, o balcão e a maneira de expôr alguns produtos não ajudam a diferenciar mas notam-se as diferenças, eu pelo menos notei no preço e na qualidade do que comi. A cafetaria da esquina foi o meu "spot" regular para tomar o pequeno-almoço porque estava sempre uma por perto e foi onde comi o bagel com passas e canela que tanto gostei para além de um hot chocolat bastante bom.

 

It is inevitable to enter the Corner Bakery and compare with Starbucks, the counter and the way they display some products does not help to differentiate but you do notice the differences, I didd at least in price and quality of what I had to eat. This coffee shop on the corner was my regular spot to have breakfast because it was always close by and was where I had the bagel with raisins and cinnamon that I loved in addition to a pretty good hot chocolat.

PONTE DE DU SABLE - CHICAGO, EUA

Inaugurada em 1920 a Ponte Du Sable é na realidade a soma de duas pontes que se podem mover para passar barcos de maior porte e é uma das mais emblemáticas da cidade também porque conecta as duas partes da Michigan Avenue separada pelo rio Chicago. Passando a ponte e subindo em direcção ao Lago conseguimos ter uma das vistas mais icónicas da cidade com a Trump Tower, o Wrigley Building e o Tribune.

 

Inaugurated in 1920 the Du Sable bridge is actually the sum of two bridges that can move to pass larger boats and is one of the city's most emblematic also because it connects the two parts of Michigan Avenue separated by the Chicago River. Passing the bridge and climbing towards the lake I had one of the most iconic views of the city with the Trump Tower, Wrigley Building and the Tribune.

HYATT MAGNIFICENT MILE - CHICAGO, EUA

Não contava ter ficado neste hotel e era um dos que tinha preços acordados com a nossa empresa, como ficámos "presas" em Chicago o primeiro que nos marcaram foi o Hyatt perto da Magnificent Mile. Estaria fora do meu orçamento de outra maneira mas para o hotel que é considero que tem uma boa relação preço-qualidade considerando o nível em que se posiciona, os quartos são confortáveis e espaçosos, está muito bem localizado e o atendimento foi (quase) cinco estrelas.

 

I was not counting to stay at this hotel and it was one that had prices agreed with our company, as we were "stuck" in Chicago the first that they booked was the Hyatt near the Magnificent Mile. Would be out of my budget otherwise but I do consider that this hotel has a good value for money if you consider it's level, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, is very well located and the service was (almost) five star.

GLAZED AND INFUSED - CHICAGO, EUA

Sou daquelas pessoas que não acredita em passar uma semana a tomar o pequeno-almoço no hotel, acho que é bom para um dia mas os restantes, se estou numa grande cidade como Chicago prefiro conhecer as suas pastelarias ou onde todos vão tomar café pela manhã antes de ir trabalhar. Foi assim que fui ao Corner Bakery e que depois descobri o Glazed and Infused que ficava próximo do meu segundo hotel (o Acme Company). A especialidade da casa: donuts com as receitas mais originais e doces da cidade.

 

I am of those people who does not believe in spending a week having breakfast at the hotel, I think it is good for one day but the rest, if I'm in a big city like Chicago Iould rather know their pastries shops and go where everyone will have coffee in the morning before going to work. So that is how I went to the Corner Bakery to have breakfast and then discovered Glazed and Infused that was close to my second hotel (the Acme Company). The house specialty: donuts with the most original and sweet recipes in town.

CHICAGO RIVERWALK - CHICAGO, EUA

Será sem dúvida melhor na Primavera ou mesmo no Verão mas o Inverno dá um toque melancólico a este passeio junto ao rio Chicago. Há menos gente, vês algum corajoso a correr ou casalinho romântico que veio passar o fim de semana á cidade de resto o passeio tem árvores despidas, muita neve e em algumas zonas um gelo um tanto perigoso. Mas o melhor deste passeio é sem dúvida a própria cidade e arquitetura á sua volta.

 

Would undoubtedly be better in the spring or in the summer but winter gives a melancholic touch to this walk along the Chicago River. There are fewer people, you see some bold people running or a romantic happy couple who came to spend the weekend the rest you have the naked trees, lots of snow and ice in same areas that is somewhat dangerous. But the best of this walk is undoubtedly the city itself and the architecture around it.

THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY - CHICAGO, EUA

A fábrica do Cheesecake não é um original de Chicago mas sim de Detroit e apesar de hoje ser uma grande cadeia começou com Evelyn Overton que segundo dizem fazia uns cheesecakes deliciosos em casa e acabou por abrir uma pequena loja, graças a ela pude provar um dos melhores que alguma vez comi e não sendo nenhuma especialista no assunto saí bastante contente. Fui ao que fica no John Hancock Center e quando entras a decoração faz-te sentir no País das Maravilhas.

 

The Cheesecake Factory is not an original Chicago but Detroit and although today it is a large chain it began with Evelyn Overton who they say made delicious cheesecakes at home and eventually opened a small shop, thanks to her I could taste oneof the best I've ever eaten and being no expert on the subject I left very happy. I went to the one that is on the John Hancock Center and when you enter the decor makes you feel in Wonderland.
