
Localizado na freguesia do Castelo, é um dos monumentos mais emblemáticos da cidade. Construído no topo de uma colina tem por isso uma vista fantástica sobre Lisboa e da margem sul do rio Tejo.
Foi conquistado aos mouros por D. Afonso Henriques e com uma grande ajuda de um sacrificio de Martim Moniz. O primeiro Rei de Portugal e os cruzados montaram um cerco ao largo do castelo que durou três meses e meio, acabando com o dominio árabe na cidade de Lisboa que alguns anos depois se tornaria a capital.

The first King of Portugal and the Crusaders mounted a siege of the castle that lasted around three and half months, ending with the Arab dominion in Lisbon that a few years later would become the capital.
