Lyon é de certa forma uma cidade priveligiada, por ela passam dois rios, o Saône e o Ródano. Foram as margens do primeiro que percorremos no nosso passeio da cidade já que é também o que está mais próximo da zona mais antiga da cidade e de Fourviére.
Nasce nas montanhas de Vosges e desagua no Ródano justamente em Lyon.

 

Lyon is a city somehow privileged has it is surrounded by two rivers, the Rhône and the Saône. It was next to the first that we went to stroll in the city as it is also the one that is closest to the oldest part of the city and Fourviére.
It is born in the Vosges Mountains and flows into the Rhone right in Lyon.

do: RUE DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE - LYON, FRANÇA

É uma rua que vai desde a Place Louis Pradel até a Place de Bellecour, famosa por ser um dos "centros" comerciais da cidade Lyon. Para percorrê-la na totalidade seria um longo mas interessante trajecto nós fizémos a parte final que vai desde a Place de la Repúblique até a Bellecour.

Ainda que pequeno, foi sem dúvida interessante por alguns edificios que vimos. Um deles foi o de estilo Art Déco que alberga os dos cinemas Pathé. Estávamos acostumados a ver o símbolo do galo dourado no inicio dos filmes que não associávamos que tivessem salas de cinema próprias, aqui está a prova, para além de produtores são também distribuidores.

It is a street that goes from the Place Louis Pradel to Place Bellecour, famous for being one of the shopping "centre" of the city Lyon. To go through it in its entirety would be a long but interesting journey we made the final part that goes from the Place de la République to Bellecour.
Though small, it was certainly interesting for a few buildings we saw. One was the Art Deco style which houses the Pathé cinemas. We used to see the symbol of the golden rooster in the beginning of movies but we had not associated it with the cinemas themselves, here's the proof, in addition to producers they are also distributors.

do: PLACE DE LA REPUBLIQUE - LYON, FRANÇA

Localizada na zona de Presqu'île, esta ampla praça teve antes do século XIX outro nome: Place Impériale. Rodeada de elegantes edificios, a praça tem ao centro uma fonte rectangular que segundo dizem tem repuxos que funcionam mas no dia em que fomos não vimos nenhum a funcionar. Numa das esquinas está o edificio do Hotel Carlton, um dos mais requintados da cidade. 

Located in the Presqu'ile district, this large square had another name before the nineteenth century: Place Imperiale. Surrounded by elegant buildings, the square has a rectangular fountain in the center that they say it works but on the day that we were there haven't seen any running. In one corner is the building of the Hotel Carlton, one of the finest in the city.

do: PLACE BELLECOUR - LYON, FRANÇA

Depois do pequeno-almoço entrámos na Place Bellecour, a sua dimensão é impressionante e é a terceira maior praça de França.

Mas infelizmente a dimensão não chega para impressionar, a verdade é que apesar do belíssimo enquadramento dos edificios da praça, falta-lhe mais arvoredo ou algo que a torne mais agradável principalmente por ser tão grande acaba por se tornar vazia.

Talvez haja um motivo para que assim seja, sabemos que aqui se fazem muitos eventos ao longo do ano e por isso espaço acaba por se tornar mais funcional.

After breakfast we went into the Place Bellecour, it's size is impressive and is the third biggest square of France.
But unfortunately the size is not enough to impress, the truth is that despite the beautiful environment of the buildings of the square, it lacks more trees or something that would make it more enjoyable mainly because it is so big that eventually becomes empty.
Maybe there's a reason for it to be, we know that are many events held here throughout the year and the space eventually becomes more functional.

do: BASILICA NOTRE-DAME DE FOURVIÉRE - LYON, FRANÇA

 

Logo na praça de Bellecour conseguíamos vislumbrar a beleza da Basílica de Notre-Dame de Fourviére. Situada na colina com o mesmo nome, ocupa o lugar onde antes estava uma pequena igreja do século XV.
O acesso á basílica faz-se através de um funicular que sai da Place de St. Jean cuja viagem faz também parte da experiência da visita.

 

Right from the Bellecour square we could glimpse the beauty of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviére. Situated on the hill of the same name, it occupies the place where once stood a small church from the fifteenth century.
The access to the basilica is via a funicular that leaves from Place St. Jean whose journey is also part of the experience of the visit.

shop: MERCADO QUAI ST-ANTOINE - LYON, FRANÇA

Folheando os guias de viagem de França em quase todos recomendavam uma visita aos mercados das principais cidades, mas um dos que vi que mais recomendavam era este na Quai Saint-Antoine em Lyon. Esta capital da alta cozinha tem a sua base nestes mercados, os melhores "chefs" procuram ali os alimentos mais frescos para preparar os seus pratos mais elaborados, directamente do produtor.

Lyon é uma cidade fantástica não tenho dúvidas, mas para mim o seu principal encanto estava neste mercado e nas suas animadas ruas repletas de restaurantes que davam vontade de fazer um roteiro gastronómico que depois exigiria uma dieta rigorosa.

 

Leafing through travel guides of France in almost all it was recommended a visit to the markets of major cities, but one that I saw that was the most recommended was this Quai Saint-Antoine in Lyon. This capital of haute cuisine has its base in these markets, the best "chefs" seek there the freshest foods to prepare their dishes, directly from the producer.
Lyon is a fantastic city no doubt, but for me its main charm was this market and its lively streets filled with restaurants that made ​​you want to do a gastronomic tour which then require a strict diet.

do: BRIOCHE DORÉE - LYON, FRANÇA

Olhámos para a tarifa de pequeno-almoço do nosso hotel e se não me engano andava por volta dos 10€ (já não me lembro), portanto para dois saía a 20€.

Em França acaba por ser  atirar dinheiro pela janela porque a cada esquina está um café que vende croissants, sumos de laranja e qualquer bebida quente. Assim, saímos do hotel e optámos por procurar uma pastelaria. Descobrimos a Brioche Dorée, uma cadeia de pastelarias com preços muito acessíveis e com várias lojas espalhadas por todo o país. Além de bolos, vende pão e á hora do almoço tem uma grande oferta para comer. E os bolos tinham um aspecto...foi muito dificil resistir. 

 

We looked at the breakfast rate from our hotel and if I'm not mistaken it was around 10 € (I do not remember exactly), so for two it would be 20 €.
In France it turns out to be throwing money out the window because in every corner is a cafe that sells croissants, orange juice and any hot drink. So we left the hotel and we decided to look for a pastry. We found the Brioche Doree, a chain of bakeries with very affordable prices and with several stores throughout the country. Besides cakes, sells bread and lunch with a varied offer to eat. And the cakes looked amazing... it was very hard to resist.

do: LE LAYON - LYON, FRANÇA

Na Rue Mercière a oferta de restaurantes é tão grande que torna a decisão ainda mais complicada, decidimos seguir o nosso instinto e escolhemos o Le Layon. Conseguimos uma mesa na esplanada pelo o que o ambiente já estava criado.

Tivémos alguma dificuldade a entender a ementa que estava em francês, pedimos uma em inglês mas não responderam que tinham, simplesmente chamaram outro empregado que falava inglês e "arranhava" o espanhol, só assim conseguimos entender o que nos podia calhar no prato. 

 

On Rue Mercière the restaurants choice it's so big that makes the decision even more complicated, we decided to follow our instincts and chose Le Layon. We got a table on the terrace by what the environment was already created.
We had some difficulty to understand the menu since it was in French, we asked for one in English but didn't answered they didn't have, they had simply called another waiter who spoke English and "scratched" a bit of Spaniard, just so we can understand what we could get on a plate.

do: RUE MERCIÈRE - LYON, FRANÇA

Antes de ir de viagem, perguntei a uma colega francesa que restaurantes me recomendava em Lyon, sabendo de antemão que é a capital da boa cozinha e a probabilidade de entrar num que seja bom sem perguntar é muito elevada. Mas ela respondeu: qualquer um da Rue Mercière.

Quis o destino que o único hotel com quartos e com um preço acessível (um Best Western) era a pouco menos de cinco minutos dessa mesma rua.

 

Before travelling, I asked a French colleague to recommend some restaurants in Lyon, knowing beforehand this is the capital of good cuisine and the probability of entering a good one without asking is very high. But she answered: any of Rue Mercière.
As fate would have it, the only hotel with rooms and an affordable price (a Best Western) was a little less than five minutes this same Street.

sleep: HOTEL ST. ANTOINE - LYON, FRANÇA

Saímos de Avignon com destino a Lyon, chegámos ao final do dia e a nossa missão era encontrar um hotel. Procurávamos o de sempre, central e a bom preço. Claro que sem nada marcado ficamos um pouco á mercê do que há. No GPS colocámos todos os hotéis junto á zona da Rue Mérciere que foi uma das recomendadas e procurávamos coisas como Ibis, Best Western ou equivalentes em preço.

Depois de muito procurar (e de nos pedirem preços exorbitantes...é certo que estamos em Semana Santa) encontrámos este que ficou por 80€ a noite. Já não tinham muitos quartos e o que tinham, bom...digamos que depois ao ver o site do hotel sentimo-nos um pouco ultrajados, mas era o último que havia e por todo o lado ouvíamos o mesmo. 

 

We left Avignon bound for Lyon, we have reached the end of the day and our mission was to find a hotel. We were looking for the usual, central and good price. Of course with nothing booked we are at the mercy of what's available. In GPS we put all the hotels near the area of Rue Merciere which was one of the recommended and we were looking for things like Ibis, Best Western or similar in price.
After much searching (and asking us expensive prices, it's right ... we are in Holy Week)we found that this was € 80 per night. They didn't had many rooms and what they had, well ... let's say that after seeing the site of the hotel we felt a bit outraged, but it was the last room they had and  we heard everywhere the same.
