LAS VISTILLAS - MADRID, ESPANHA

Queria conhecer Las Vistillas e saber se o nome tinha algo que ver com uma vista privilegiada para uma parte de Madrid que hoje não conseguimos ver bem desde o Viaduto de Segóvia porque está vedado (demasiadas mortes por suicidio), na realidade teve no tempo em que o jardim foi criado mas entre todo o arvoredo consegui ver apenas uma parte da Catedral de Almudena. Ainda assim tem detalhes interessantes e é um lugar sossegado onde se pode fugir do reboliço da cidade para ler um livro ou namorar como por ali vi.

I wanted to see Las Vistillas and whether the name had something to do with a privileged view of a part of Madrid that today we can not see well from the Viaduct Segovia because it is forbidden (too many deaths from suicide) actually had at the time the garden was created but among all the trees you could see only part of the Almudena Cathedral. Still has interesting details and is a quiet place where you can escape the city hustle to read a book or dating as seen through there.

PARQUE MARÍA LUISA - SEVILHA, ESPANHA

Perto da famosa Plaza de Espanha está o parque María Luisa, parte dos jardins do Palácio de San Telmo que os duques de Montpensier ofereceram á cidade e daí a dedicatória á Infanta María Luisa, filha do rei D. Fernando e María Cristina. Construído no final do século XIX é o maior parque de Sevilha que para além das suas zonas verdes tem vários lagos, fontes, estátuas e trabalhos de cerâmica que fazem valer a pena explorar cada recanto de esta cidade.

Close to the famous Plaza of Spain is the Maria Luisa Park, part of the gardens of the Palacio de San Telmo the Dukes of Montpensier offered to the city and hence the dedication will Infanta María Luisa, daughter of King Ferdinand and Maria Cristina. JARDIM DO TURIA - VALÊNCIA, ESPANHA

O maior parque de Espanha foi construído nas terras onde antes passava o Rio Turia que foi desviado depois das grandes inundações de 1957.  São quase nove quilómetros de jardins, pontes, lagos, parques infantis entre outras actividades, é o plano ideal para um passeio em familia.

Uma das suas principais atracções é a Cidade das Artes e das Ciências onde se destacam o Palácio das Artes da Rainha Sofia e o Museu das Ciências do Príncipe Felipe.

The biggest park in Spain was built on the land where once passed the Turia River  that was diverted after the great flood of 1957. There are almost nine kilometers of gardens, fountains, ponds, playgrounds and other activities, is the ideal plan for a family stroll. One of its main attractions is the City of Arts and Sciences which features the Queen Sofia Palace of the Arts and the Prince Felipe Museum of Science.

KENSINGTON GARDENS - LONDRES, INGLATERRA

É um dos Royal Parks de London e fazia parte dos jardins privados do Palácio de Kensington, onde nasceu a Princesa Vitória e onde após a noticia da morte do seu tio se tornou Rainha. Colado ao Hyde Park é difícil perceber onde um termina e o outro começa, mas o melhor é que tem muito para ver e é o plano ideal para o fim de semana quando queres dar um passeio. São 111 hectares de verde, lagos, esculturas, esplanadas e jardins secretos.

 

It is one of the Royal Parks of London and was part of the private gardens of Kensington Palace, where Princess Victoria was born and where after the news of the death of his uncle became Queen. Glued to Hyde Park is hard to see where one ends and the other begins, but it is best with a lot to see and is the ideal plan for the weekend when you want to take a walk. Are 111 hectares of green, lakes, sculptures, terraces and secret gardens.

PARQUE FELIPE VI - MADRID, ESPANHA

Já começaram os dias quentes mas foi num de esses um pouco mais nublado e fresco que decidimos ir dar um passeio em familia ao Parque Felipe VI, recém-estreado em Valdebebas (distrito de Hortaleza). Ninguém parece chegar a acordo quanto ao tamanho do parque mas quase todas as noticias e o site do Ayuntamiento dizem que tem 470 hectares além disso por ser um parque florestal tem horários mais reduzidos que o normal. Pareceu-me óptimo para a prática de desporto, tem uma pista de ciclismo á volta do parque e vi muitos a correr por ali.

 

The hot days have started but it was in one of those a little cloudy and cool we decided to go for a family walk in the park Felipe VI, newly opened in Valdebebas (Hortaleza district). No one seems to agree on the park's size but almost all news and the Ayuntamiento's site say they have 470 hectares in addition to be a forest park that has shorter hours than normal. It seemed great to do sports it has a cycling track that goes around the park and I saw many running around it also.

MILLENNIUM PARK - CHICAGO, EUA

É talvez das imagens mais icónicas de Chicago: o Cloud Gate ou como é conhecido localmente - the Bean. Tinha por isso muita curiosidade e não sei porquê esperava algo maior mas ainda assim é divertido ver esta gigantesca escultura que já se tornou um "landmark" da cidade além de colocar no mapa turístico o Millennium Park localizado na zona norte do Grant Park.

O nome já diz muito, este parque está dedicado ao novo milénio e nele podemos ver alguns exemplos da arte moderna como o já mencionado Cloud Gate mas também o Jay Pritzker Pavillion ou a Crown Fountain.

 

It is perhaps one of the most iconic images of Chicago: the Cloud Gate or as it is known locally - the Bean. Had so much curiosity and do not know why expect something bigger but it's still fun to see this giant sculpture that has already become a landmark of the city as well as put on the tourist map the Millennium Park located in the north of Grant Park.
The name says a lot, this park is dedicated to the new millennium and in it we can see some examples of modern art as the aforementioned Cloud Gate but also the Jay Pritzker Pavillion or the Crown Fountain.

VOJANOVY SADY - PRAGA, REP. CHECA

Depois do nosso almoço no Vojanuv Dvur (post aqui) continuámos a explorar a cidade sem grande plano, sabíamos que o passeio estava a chegar ao fim quando entrámos neste parque, o Vojanovy Sady. Parecia um mundo paralelo, depois da agitação de atravessar a Ponte Carlos e de visitar o Castelo sempre com muita gente á volta chegar aqui e encontrar um bonito e tranquilo jardim foi o melhor para recarregar baterias.

 

After our lunch at Vojanuv Dvur (post here) we continued to explore the city without great plans, we knew that our walk was coming to an end when we entered this park, Vojanovy Sady. It looked like a parallel world, after the crowd crossing the Charles Bridge and the visit to the Castle always  with so many people around it to get here and find a beautiful, quiet garden was the best thing to recharge batteries.

do: PARQUE CERRO DEL TÍO PÍO - MADRID, ESPANHA

Passando a "fronteira" da M30 chegámos a Puente de Vallecas onde está o parque do Cerro del Tío Pío que é sem dúvida o que tem as melhores vistas sobre a cidade de Madrid. Foi uma excelente final de tarde com os mais pequenos que aproveitaram para brincar na zona infantil e depois subimos a um dos cerros para ver o pôr do sol. Nesse momento as colinas ficam mais concorridas e o mais comum é levar um piquenique para aproveitá-lo da melhor maneira.

 

Passing the "frontier" of the M30 we arrived at the Puente de Vallecas where the park Cerro del Tío Pío is, it is undoubtedly the one that has the best views over the city of Madrid. It was a great end of the day with the little ones who played in the kid's zone and then we went up to one of the hills to watch the sunset. At that time the hills are the busiest and the most common is to take a picnic to enjoy it the best way.

Das primeiras vezes que fiquei em Paris lembro-me que um dos meus lugares preferidos era o Jardim do Luxembourg, aquela ideia de passar uma solarenga tarde sentada numa cadeira encostada a um lago ou uma fonte a ler um livro parecia-me perfeita. O que não consigo explicar é como passei sempre pelo Jardim das Tulherias (que soa melhor em francês) e nunca parei para vê-lo com atenção, para perceber que dele consegui ter o mesmo sentimento que tive quando dei um passeio no de Luxembourg pela primeira vez.

 

Of the first times I was in Paris I remember one of my favorite places was the Garden of Luxembourg, that idea of spending a sunny afternoon sitting in a chair against a lake or a fountain to read a book seemed perfect. What I can not explain is how I passed several times by the Tuileries Garden and never stopped to see it carefully, to realize that I could have the same feeling I had when I took a walk in the Luxembourg for the first time.

do: JARDIM DA ESTRELA - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Tal como a Basílica, o Jardim da Estrela foi sempre um desconhecido para mim. Isso tem algo a ver com a sua utilização, muitos dos que por ele passam vivem perto e o utilizam como sua zona de lazer, lugar priviligiado para dar um passeio com crianças, com parque infantil, com um bom espaço relvado, etc..

Conhecido quando abriu como o Passeio da Estrela hoje tem o nome de Guerra Junqueiro ainda que os Lisboetas continuem tratá-lo por Jardim da Estrela, por todo o lado se pode admirar a sua concepção estética baseada no romantismo e um dos elementos que mais gostei foi o seu coreto bem conservado.

O caminho entre o nosso hotel e o centro da cidade obrigava a passar pelo o jardim Hofgarten e pela zona do Festsaalbau parte integrante do Residenz, o palácio da familia real. Chamou-nos a atenção pela sua tranquilidade, pelo templo que está ao centro e pela esplanada que convida a um café.

 

The path between our hotel and the city center forced us to go by the Hofgarten and the Festsaalbau area part of the Residenz, the palace of the royal family. It caught our attention for its tranquility, the temple it has in the center and the terrace that invites you to dring a coffee.

Gostámos muito de passear no Bryant Park é daqueles sitios que desejas ter á porta de casa com um bom relvado, com as cadeirinhas de jardim para tomar um café ao ar livre ou ler um livro descansada. Fiquei com a sensação de que é como se tivesses um pedacinho da Paris em Nova Iorque, uma zona de tranquilidade no reboliço da cidade rodeado de edificios emblemáticos um deles o da Biblioteca Pública.

 

We really enjoyed walking in Bryant Park it is one of those places you wish to have close to your house with a nice lawn, with garden chairs to drink coffee outdoors or reading a book. I got the feeling that it is like a piece of Paris in New York, aa peaceful área away from the hustle and bustle of the city surrounded by emblematic buildings one is the Public Library.

O Central Park era um dos sitios que queria muito conhecer em Nova Iorque, cenas de filmes e séries passavam pela minha cabeça e queria passar por esses lugares que pensas que te resultam familiares. Para o visitar decidimos alugar umas bicicletas (alugámos na Liberty Bicycles - http://libertybikesny.com/) para conseguir conhecer o parque numa manhã, um plano ambicioso sem dúvida e demorámos duas horas e meia.

 

The Central Park was one of the places we really wanted to see in New York, scenes from movies and series running through my head and I wanted to go through these places that you think are so familiar. To do this visit we decided to rent some bikes (we rented at Liberty Bicycles - http://libertybikesny.com/ ) to get to know the park in one morning, no doubt it was an ambitious plan and it took us two and a half hours.

do: HIGH LINE - NOVA IORQUE, EUA

Passeámos no High Line já no último dia completo que tínhamos em Nova Iorque, a entrada norte ficava muito perto do nosso apartamento mas fomos primeiro tomar o pequeno-almoço no Doughnut Plant e já entrámos um pouco mais á frente, ainda assim conseguimos ver uma boa parte do parque construido utilizando a antiga linha de comboios da West Side Line.

 

Strolled the High Line on the last full day we had in New York, the north entrance was very close to our apartment but we first had breakfast at Doughnut Plant, and therefore we entered it a little further ahead, we still can see a good part of the park built using the old train line called West Side line.

do: ENGLISHER GARTEN - MUNIQUE, ALEMANHA

O Englisher Garten era um dos sitios que queriamos muito conhecer em Munique. Cada vez mais os parques fazem parte dos roteiros históricos, alguns porque sao históricos e outros porque sao uma boa maneira de escapar aos monumentos cheios de gente aproveitando uma experiência semelhante aos que aqui vivem. Ficava perto do nosso hotel e depois de tomar o pequeno-almoço no San Francisco Coffee company fomos dar um passeio por ele.

The Englisher Garten was one of the places we really wanted to see in Munich. More and more parks are now part of the tourist circuit, some because of their history and others because they are a good way to escape the crowded monuments taking advantage of an experience similar to those who live here. It was close to our hotel and after we had breakfast in the San Francisco Coffee company we went for a walk in it. 

do: JARDIM DE BOBOLI - FLORENÇA, ITÁLIA

Não pudémos visitar o interior do Palácio Pitti mas não podíamos deixar de visitar o seu fantástico jardim de proporções generosas e que em alguns pontos oferecem uma excelente vista sobre Florença. A familia Medici foi a responsável pela ampliação do Palácio no século XIV assim como da construção do jardim que podemos hoje contemplar. As entradas custam 10€ e dão acesso para além deste Jardim, a três museus (um deles o da Porcelana) e ao Jardim de Bardini que valem a pena a visita.

 

We could not visit the inside of the Pitti Palace but we could not miss your fantastic garden of generous proportions and in some places offer a great view of Florence. The Medici family was responsible for the expansion of the palace in the fourteenth century and the building of the garden that we admire today. Tickets are 10€ and provide access beyond this garden, the three museums (one of Porcelain) and the Bardini Gardens that are worth the visit.

do: PARQUE SERRALVES - PORTO, PORTUGAL

O bilhete do Museu dá acesso á Casa e ao Parque que foi a minha parte preferida de todo o complexo Fundação Serralves. Porque é a junção de propriedades que o Conde de Vizela foi adquirindo e em alturas diferentes, o parque tem zonas distintas algumas do século XIX e outras que foram construídas na mesma altura que a casa.

É talvez um dos locais mais românticos da cidade, excelente para planos de fim de semana mas de preferencia para dias mais soleados que o que apanhámos quando o visitámos.

The Museum ticket also gives access to the House and the Park which was my favorite part of the whole complex Serralves Foundation. Because it is the junction of the Count of Vizela's properties that were acquired at different times, the park ended up having distinct areas some of the nineteenth century and others were built at the same time as the house.
It is perhaps one of the most romantic  places in the city, a great plan  for the weekend but preferably in days with more sun tan the one we had when we visited.

do: PARQUE EDUARDO VII - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Ao visitar o Parque Eduardo VII não pude evitar aquele sentimento de emigrante de orgulho tirando fotos a todos os detalhes e muitas á bandeira. É a típica situação de que quando deixas de viver naquela que era a tua cidade começas a valorizar lugares que nem nunca foram dos teus preferidos e este parque é um deles. Na realidade, passava por ele sem nunca lhe dar grande importância, sem nunca aproveitar a vista singular que tem sobre a cidade de Lisboa e a Margem Sul.

 

While visiting the Parque Eduardo VII I could not avoid that emigrant feeling of pride taking pictures of all the details and a lot to the flag. It is the typical situation when you stop living in what was your town you begin to appreciate places that never were your favorites and this park is one of them. In fact,I passed through it many times without ever giving it great importance, never enjoying the unique views it has over the city of Lisbon and South side.

do: MUSEUMPLEIN - AMSTERDÃO, HOLANDA

Para os que procuram a tradicional foto no I amsterdam e não a tiraram por exemplo no aeroporto, a Museumplein (ou Praça dos Museus) oferece um excelente cenário com vista para o famoso Rijksmuseum. Mas mais que praça eu diría que é um parque porque tem um excelente relvado com algum arvoredo e foi um dos sitios mais agradáveis para dar um passeio.

 

For those looking for the traditional photo in the I amsterdam and didn't took it for eg at the airport, the Museumplein (Museum Square or) offers a great setting overlooking the famous Rijksmuseum. But more than that I would say the square is a park because it has a great lawn  and was one of the nicest places to take a walk.

do: VONDELPARK - AMSTERDÃO, HOLANDA

Este era o parque que gostava de ter á porta de casa. São quase 50 hectares de relvado, lagos, arvoredo abundante, parques infantis, arte entre outras actividades para aproveitar os dias de bom tempo. Estava bastante triste com a possibilidade de não poder andar por aqui, não parava de chover mas estranhamente ao final do dia já eram quase nove da noite, o sol apareceu já com pouca força mas a suficiente para pelo o parque ver gente a fazer jogging, a passear o cão, a andar de bicicleta, a beber uma cerveja no relvado cantando, etc..

 

I would love to have this park at my doorstep. It's nearly 50 acres of lawns, lakes, abundant trees, playgrounds, art and other activities to enjoy the nice weather. I was pretty sad about the possibility of not being able to stroll along it, it would stop raining but strangely at the end of the day it was almost nine in the evening, the sun appeared with less strength but enough to see people at the park jogging, walking their dog, riding bikes, drinking beer on the grass while singing, etc. ..
