BOULANGERIE DU THÉÂTRE - CAEN, FRANÇA

Alugar uma casa no Airbnb tem várias vantagens mas há uma que talvez tenha que ver com a sorte, no nosso caso quando fomos a Caen ficámos num bonito apartamento no centro da cidade e com uma carta dos proprietários (escrita em francês é certo) que recomendava alguns sitios para comer além de dar algumas indicações úteis como localização de farmácias, supermercados, etc.. Mas a melhor de todas foi mesmo a da Boulangerie du Théâtre onde recomendavam comprar os bolos para o pequeno-almoço e foi uma autêntica descoberta.

Renting a house in Airbnb has several advantages but there is one that may have to do with luck, in our case when we went to Caen we were in a beautiful apartment in the city center and a nice letter from the owner (written in French its true) which recommended some places to eat besides giving some useful information such as location of pharmacies, supermarkets, etc .. But the best of all was the Boulangerie du Théâtre in which they recommended buying cakes for breakfast and it was a real discovery.

IGREJA SAINT-PIERRE - CAEN, ESPANHA

A melhor vista para a Igreja de Saint-Pierre é desde o Castelo de Caen, só do alto das suas muralhas conseguimos ter uma foto completa já que a sua torre tem cerca de setenta e cinco metros de altura. De estilo gótico, a primeira construção data do século XIII mas foi sofrendo alterações até ao século XVI. Também ela sobreviveu á II Guerra Mundial, o que teve que ser reconstruído foi exatamente essa torre que estava de pé desde o século XIV.

The best views of the Church of Saint-Pierre is from the Castle of Caen, only from the top of its walls we can have a complete picture as its tower has about seventy-five meters high. Has a Gothic style, the first construction is from the thirteenth century but has undergone changes until the sixteenth century.It also survived World War II and what had to be rebuilt was exactly the tower that stood there since the fourteenth century.

CASTELO DUCAL - CAEN, FRANÇA

Entrei no Castelo de Caen á espera de ver o normal: muralhas, uma torre de menagem, ruínas, algum canhão e com sorte um pequeno museu ou salas preservadas, não defraudou mas aqui encontras muito mais que isso, no seu interior estão dois museus importantes o de Belas Artes e o da Normandia. Um sobrevivente da Guerra dos Cem Anos e da Segunda Guerra Mundial mas não sem mazelas que foram sendo recuperadas ao longo de estes anos.

I entered the Château de Caen waiting to see the usual: walls, a tower, ruins, some cannons and hopefully a small museum or preserved rooms, not defrauded but you will find that here there is huch more than that, inside are two important museums the Fine Arts and the Normandy. A survivor of the War of the Hundred Years and the Second World War but not without blemishes that have been recovered over the years.

LE BOUCHON DU VAUGUEUX - CAEN, FRANÇA

A zona do Vaugueux é uma das mais animadas de Caen no que diz respeito a bares e restaurantes, fica aos pés do Castelo muito perto da Igreja de Saint Pierre e é conhecida pela sua oferta gastronómica onde sem dúvida destacaria o Le Bouchon, cuja tradução seria rolha. Não é muito grande talvez por isso sentimos um ambiente mais intimo e até romântico, a carta na sua maioria com receitas da região divide-se em menus com dois pratos e uma sobremesa.

The area of Vaugueux is one of the liveliest of Caen with regard to bars and restaurants, is at the foot of the Castle very near to the Church of Saint Pierre and is known for its gastronomic offer which undoubtedly I would highlight the Le Bouchon, whose translation would be cork. It's not very big so maybe feel a more intimate and even romantic atmosphere, the letter mostly with recipes of the region is divided into menu with two dishes and a dessert.

MUSEU DO MEMORIAL DE CAEN - CAEN, FRANÇA

O Museu do Memorial de Caen foi o último que visitámos sobre a II Guerra Mundial, depois de visitar as praias, o cemitério americano, ver alguns documentários nos vários museus por onde passámos aqui demos por encerrado um capítulo das nossas férias em França que foi culturalmente interessante mas que não deixa de relembrar um passado muito negro. Vimos várias exposições e não explorámos ao máximo porque chegámos uma hora e meia antes de fechar mas foi o suficiente para conhecer ainda mais sobre este momento da história e chegar a ter pele de galinha quando ouvimos numa sala escura a voz furiosa de Hitler.

The Memorial Museum of Caen was the last we visited on World War II, after visiting the beaches, the American cemetery, seeing some documentaries in the various museums where we went to,  here we closed a chapter of our holiday in France that was culturally interesting but not without remembering a very dark past. We saw several exhibitions and didn't explore to the fullest because we arrived a half hour before closing but it was enough to know even more about this moment in history and get to have goose bumps when we heard in a dark room the raging voice of Hitler.

HONFLEUR, FRANÇA

Durante a nossa estadia na Normandia não podíamos deixar de visitar uma das suas cidades mais bonitas, antes um agitado porto comercial e hoje em dia, um pitoresco destino turístico. Fomos ao final do dia depois de visitar Cabourg, aproveitámos para jantar junto ao Vieux-Bassin e dar um passeio num lugar que parece que parou no tempo. Como tantas outras cidades na região foi ocupada pelas tropas alemãs durante a II Guerra Mundial foi depois libertada pelas tropas aliadas em 1944.

During our stay in Normandy we could not miss one of its most beautiful cities that was before a busy trading port and today, a picturesque tourist destination. We went late in the day after visiting Cabourg, took the opportunity to dine in the Vieux-Bassin and took a walk in a place that seems to have stopped in time. Like so many other cities in the region it was occupied by German troops during World War II was then liberated by Allied troops in 1944.

PORTA DE L'AVANCÉE - MONT ST-MICHEL, FRANÇA

No século XV começou a construção da muralha que vemos hoje á volta do Monte e pela qual podemos dar um agradável passeio para conhecer melhor a ilha. A única entrada é a da Porta de L'Avancée que dá para uma outra porta conhecida como a do Rei que oferece uma segunda proteção.

No pátio antes de entrar podemos encontrar o posto de Turismo onde nos deram o mapa e foi só entrar no lugar onde o tempo parece ter parado.

 

In the fifteenth century began the construction of the wall we see today built around the Mount and by which we can take a nice walk to get to know the island. The only entrance is the de L'avancée door that leads to another door known as the King offering a second layer of protection.
In the courtyard before entering we find the Tourism office where they gave us the map and then it was just getting in the place where time seems to stand still.

MONT ST-MICHEL, FRANÇA

É um dos símbolos de França e está no top 20 de monumentos visitados no país conseguindo atrair mais de um milhão de visitantes todos os anos. Tinha alguma curiosidade em ver como seria, sempre tinha ouvido falar na ilha que temos que ter cuidado com as marés para poder entrar, uma maravilha arquitectónica da época medieval que simplesmente tínhamos que visitar. Tudo começou com uma pequena igreja (ano 788) que celebrava a aparição do Arcanjo S. Miguel o bispo de Avranches quis construir num ponto alto da região.

 

It is one of the symbols of France and is in the top 20 of most visited monuments in the country managing to attract over a million visitors every year. Had some curiosity to see how it would be, had always heard of the island that we have to be careful of the tides in order to get in, an architectural marvel of medieval times that we just had to visit. It started with a small church (788 years) that celebrated the appearance of the Archangel Michael that Bishop of Avranches wanted to build a high point of the region.

GRAND RUE - MONT ST-MICHEL, FRANÇA

Para os peregrinos este era o principal caminho para chegar á abadia que está no topo do monte, nós procurámos evitá-la porque tinha muita mas muita gente. Conserva a sua origem medieval mas as lojas oferecem outro tipo de produtos de peregrinação como postais, ímans e outras recordações. É também nesta rua que está a maior oferta culinária de Mont Saint-Michel onde se destaca La Mére Poulard e as suas gigantescas omoletes.

 

For pilgrims this was the main way to get to the abbey at the top of the hill, we tried to avoid it because it had a lot but a lot of people. Retains its medieval origin but the stores offer another kind of pilgrimage products like postcards, magnets and other memorabilia. It is also on this street that is the biggest culinary offer of Mont Saint-Michel where La Mère Poulard stands out and its gigantic omoletes.

ABADIA DE ST. MICHEL - MONT ST-MICHEL, FRANÇA

Enquanto folheava a revista de viagens da National Geographic encontrei uma reportagem sobre a Normandia onde se destacava o Mont Saint-Michel, escusado será dizer que ao planear a nossa road trip pelo norte de França colocámos este lugar como um dos que tínhamos que visitar e ainda bem que o fizémos. A melhor sensação é quando o vês por primeira vez mesmo ao longe percebes que é magnifico e o que mais se destaca é a sua Abadia dedicada ao Arcanjo.

 

While flipping through the National Geographic travel magazine I found an article about Normandy where the Mont Saint-Michel stood, it goes without saying that when planning our road trip through northern France we had to put this place as one of those we had to visit and we were glad we did. The best feeling is when you see it for the first time even from a distance you see that is amazing and what stands out most is its abbey dedicated to the Archangel.

ABADIA DE JUMIÈGES - FRANÇA

Depois de passar a noite em Rouen decidimos passar por Jumièges e descobrir a sua famosa abadia, uma excelente ideia. Nenhuma foto ou post conseguirá realmente transmitir a beleza de das suas ruínas, a paz e tranquilidade que transmitem, nem o sentimento de pena que nos faz pensar que mais se poderia ter feito para a manter de pé. Inicialmente fundada em 654 como um mosteiro da Ordem de S. Bento foi mais tarde destruído pelos vikings até que em 1067, Guilherme I da Normandia volta a construir a abadia.

 

After spending the night in Rouen decided to go through Jumièges and discover its famous abbey, a great idea. No photo or post can really convey the beauty of its ruins, the peace and quiet that it transmits, or the feeling of pity that makes us think that more could have been done to keep it standing. Originally founded in 654 as a monastery of St. Benedict Order it was later destroyed by the Vikings until in 1067, William I of Normandy built an abbey again.

FRONTIERLAND DISNEYLAND - PARIS, FRANÇA

 

É a zona temática dedicada ao Velho Oeste e á expansão das fronteiras norte-americanas no século XVIII e XIX. Depois de ser pirata na Adventureland aqui podemos ser um comboy. Podemos apanhar um barco a vapor - o Molly Brown - e imaginar que estamos no rio Mississipi.

Tem cerca de sete divertimentos para além de zonas que são excelentes para tirar fotografías como se estivessemos num cenário de um filme.

DISCOVERYLAND DISNEYLAND - PARIS, FRANÇA

Do que me lembrava da Discoveryland era a Spacemontain e o Autopia. O lema de esta zona é: "Dreams of the future from the past and present" e é em cheio porque tem atrações que exploram a ideia de ficção científica como se podia descobrir nos livros de Julio Verne ou entrar no mundo da Guerra das Estrelas ou mesmo chegar ao espaço através do foguetão da Space Mountain.

 

What I remembered from the Discoveryland was the Spacemontain and the Autopia. The motto of this zone is: "Dreams of the future from the past and present" and is spot on because it has attractions that explore the idea of science fiction as one could find in the books of Jules Verne or enter the Star Wars world or even get into space by rocket from space Mountain.

ADVENTURELAND DISNEYLAND - PARIS, FRANÇA

A Adventureland é uma das parte mais pequena do mundo da Disneyland Paris, tem seis divertimentos mas dois deles são dos mais frequentados do parque: o dos Piratas das Caraíbas e o do Indiana Jones e o Templo do Perigo (Peril). Este último atrai multidões e nem sempre é fácil sequer conseguir um Fastpass, é um dos favoritos dos mais crescidos (a altura minima é 1,40m) e é uma montanha russa onde entramos numa mina e temos que sobreviver á ira dos deuses.

 

The Adventureland is one of the smallest in the world of Disneyland Paris, has six rids or attractions but two of them are the most frequented of the park: the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril. The latter draws crowds and is not always easy even to get a Fastpass, is a favorite of older (the minimum height is 1.40m) and is a roller coaster where we enter a mine and have to survive the wrath of the gods.

FANTASYLAND DISNEYLAND - PARIS, FRANÇA

A primeira foto do Castelo da Bela Adormecida é a que melhor identifica a passagem á Fantasyland, o mundo que para mim é a essência da Disney, das suas primeiras histórias e personagens como Peter Pan, Pinóquio, Alice no País das Maravilhas, o Dumbo, entre outros. É também aqui que está o meu divertimento preferido: o Small World. E se procuras as pizzas com a forma do Mickey, estão aqui na pizzaria Bella Notte.

 

The first photo of Sleeping Beauty Castle is the one that best identifies the passage to Fantasyland, the world which for me is the essence of Disney, of it's early stories and characters like Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, among others. It is also here that is my favorite ride: Small World. And if you look for the pizzas with the shape of Mickey, here at the pizzeria Bella Notte.

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS (PART II) - PARIS, FRANÇA

No post anterior comecei a falar sobre o segundo parque do Walt Disney Studios que não ficou completo porque faltou falar do Toon Studio, foi a minha preferida onde passei grande parte do tempo no dia em que fomos. Aqui encontramos os personagens de Toy Story que têm a sua própria Toyland com uma boa variedade de divertimentos para todas as idades, entramos no mundo de Ratatoille e o simpático rato Remy e podemos voar com o Génio do Aladino.

 

In the previous post I started talking about the second park of Walt Disney Studios that was not complete because it missed the Toon Studio, which was my favorite area and where I spent much of the time in the day we went there. Here we find the Toy Story characters that have their own Toyland with a good variety of entertainment for all ages, we enter the world of Ratatoille and the friendly rat Remy and can fly with the Genie of Aladdin.

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS (PARTE I) - PARIS, FRANÇA

É o segundo parque temático que abriu em 2002, alguns anos depois de ter ido pela primeira vez á Disneyland Paris (na altura chamavam-lhe Eurodisney). Oferece uma visão sobre os bastidores do cinema e televisão, veículos da magia e imaginação da Walt Disney. Aqui as suas estrelas mais recentes ganham protagonismo: Woody, Buzz Lightyear, o Crush do Nemo, Ratatui, entre outros.

 

It is the second theme park that opened in 2002, some years after I went for the first time to Disneyland Paris (at the time called Eurodisney). Offers an insight into the behind the scenes of film and television, the vehicles of the magic and imagination of Walt Disney. Here their latest stars gain prominence: Woody, Buzz Lightyear, the Nemo Crush, Ratatouille, among others.

MAIN STREET USA DISNEYLAND - PARIS, FRANÇA

Das primeiras vezes que fui á Disneyland passei por todos os divertimentos ou atrações em procura de emoções fortes ou simplesmente reviver alguma história mágica mas ao regressar este ano apercebi-me que a minha zona preferida é a Main Street. É a que me faz viajar no tempo, o bilhete de entrada a um mundo de magia e tal como essas vezes, voltou a ser a protagonista das minhas fotos. Sonho viver num sitio como este, uma colorida Main Street.

 

Of the first times I will Disneyland went through all the amusements or attractions in search of strong emotions or simply relive some magic story but returning this year I realized that my favorite area is the main street. It's what makes me travel in time, the entry ticket to a world of magic and like in those times, was once again the protagonist of my photos. I dream to live in a place like this, a colorful Main Street.

NATAL NA DISNEYLAND - PARIS, FRANÇA

Feliz Dia dos Reis, a última celebração do Natal pelo menos aqui em Espanha. Em 2014 conseguimos cumprir um desejo: visitar a Disneyland Paris no Natal, dizem que é o lugar mais feliz do mundo e tinha muita curiosidade em sentir essa felicidade num entorno mais natalício. Partimos numa pequena aventura, fomos de carro de Madrid até Marne-la-Vallée com os dois pequenos para dar-lhes a conhecer o mundo imaginado por Walt Disney e seguindo o seu lema: "If you can dream it, you can do it!"

 

Happy Day of the Kings, the last celebration of Christmas at least here in Spain. In 2014 we managed to fulfill one wish: to visit Disneyland Paris at Christmas, they say it is the happiest place in the world and I was very curious to feel that happiness in a surroundings of these festivities. We left in a little adventure, we drove from Madrid to Marne-la-Vallée with two children to introduce them to the world imagined by Walt Disney and following his motto: "If you can dream it, you can do it! "

PLACE VENDÔME - PARIS, FRANÇA

Não foi a melhor altura para descubrir a Place Vendôme, uma das que sempre quis visitar quando estive em Paris mas por um motivo ou outro nunca consegui e ainda não foi desta porque uma boa parte da praça está em obras. Ainda assim não deixa de ter o seu encanto, gostei muito de a ver rodeada de elegantes edificios construídos no século XVIII durante o reinado de Luís XIV (o Rei Sol) pelo mesmo arquitecto responsável pelo Palácio de Versalhes.

 

It was not the best time to discover the Place Vendome, one that always wanted to visit when I was in Paris but for one reason or another never got to do so and still was not this time because a good part of the square is being rebuilt. Still not without its charm, I really enjoyed seing the elegant buildings that surround the square built in the eighteenth century during the reign of Louis XIV (the Sun King) by the same architect responsible for the Palace of Versailles.
