We were lucky to visit it's interior after being completed in time for the visit to Barcelona of the Pope Benedict XVI. Although I do think Gaudí's project an extraordinary work, it looks like the new construction versus the old makes everything less harmonious but the interior, is a different thing, looks like you fell into a hole and entered the Wonderland or some enchanted woods.
As soon as we get in we aree overwhelmed by the shapes inspired by nature, the immense light that enters through various windows without forgetting the great rainbow provided by the stained glass.
At the center of the altar we have Jesus Christ on the cross, under an original canopy, adorned with grapes, vine and spikes. What is even more interesting is that the canopy is suspended when it's usually in the ground with four pillars.

Love or hate it, it's impossible to remain indifferent, impossible not to open your mouth when you get in. There is no other Cathedral or Basilica like this in the world and perhaps none so controversial. The interior opened to the public more than eighty years after the death of Antoni Gaudí, some argue that it's true to what the architect wanted others argue that he was improvising letting himself be inspired by new shapes, materials, etc..
In the museum we can see that from the models the architect left they are close to what we see now.
I was fascinated by the light, the colors, the devotion put into every detail, the chorus that seems like an eagle and the dome close to the altar.
