Eu precisava de ir ás compras e quis ir ao centro de Madrid. Gosto muito da zona da Princesa porque é logo á entrada da cidade e acaba por ser mais perto para nós. Aproveitámos também esta nossa ida para jantar e eu tinha encontrado várias referências na internet aos restaurantes Peggy Sue pelos seus hamburguers.
O mais perto era este da Calle Santa Cruz de Macenado e o nome já dá uma pista: Peggy Sue, American Diner. Antes de ir vi o site e gostei imenso, é mesmo representativo dos "diners" tão famosos nos anos 50. Parece que estamos no "Regresso ao Passado" e a qualquer momento pode entrar o Michael J. Fox.
I needed to go shopping and wanted to go to the center of Madrid. I love the Princess area because is right at the entrance of the city and ends up being closer to us. Since we were there we want to have dinner and I had found several references on the internet to Peggy Sue restaurants for their hamburgers.
The closest was this in the Calle Santa Cruz de Macenado the name already gives a clue: Peggy Sue, American Diner. Before going I saw the website and I liked it, is really representative of the "diners" that were so famous in the 50s. Looks like we're in "Back to the Future" and anytime Michael J. Fox can walk in.
The interior is so very true to the style, with the jukebox, tables and sofas, the "neon", the fifties advertising, all ...
Another interesting detail was TV that only shows programs and movies from that decade, in black and white. Then when I looked at the menu I was surprised with the prices, it is very affordable, a hamburger does not cost more than € 6 and the pizzas are around € 5 / € 6 too. We weren't there for the pizzas ... (we did order one for the kid)
We went for burgers, as we have done with the Indian restaurants we decided to go in search of the best burger in Madrid, after Alfredo's now Peggy Sue and I can say that the latter does not disappoint and I dare say it has the best price / quality ratio, because Hambúguers were indeed good and we paid € 34 for dinner (3 people).
The only thing that may be a point against it is the variety (or in this case the lack of variety). There were 4 types of burgers, three types of pizza and a 4 types of salads, little more. I thought we had more desserts than hamburgers but in reality it doesn't make a big difference, as they say, less is more. I ate the Aretha Franklin (I'm dieting) and my husband had the James Brown, he loved it.
Potatoes are requested aside costs about € 4 but is generous (for two) and are great, never seen them cut like that looking like canoes and maybe that's why they are so good.
For dessert we ordered the Cheese Cake, I tasted a piece and it was delicious.
We really liked the restaurant, the space is small but cozy and the service is great. Between Alfredo's and this, I think I prefer the Peggy Sue mainly because we found out that we have a close to home.

O interior então é bastante fiel ao estilo, com as jukebox, as mesas e as cadeiras tipo sofá, os "neons", a publicidade dos anos 50, tudo...
Outro pormenor interessante foi o televisor que só passava programas e filmes do mesmo período, a preto e branco. Depois quando olhei para a ementa fiquei surpreendida com os preços, é muito acessível, um hamburguer não custa mais de 6€ e as pizzas rondam os 5€/6€ também. Mas não íamos pelas pizzas...(pedimos para o miúdo)

Nós fomos pelos hamburguers, tal como fizémos com os restaurantes indianos decidimos partir em busca do melhor hamburguer de Madrid, depois do Alfredo's agora o Peggy Sue e posso dizer que este último não desilude e arrisco dizer que tem a melhor relação preço/qualidade, porque os hambuguers eram de facto bons e pagámos pelo jantar 34€ (3 pessoas).

A única coisa que podem ter como um ponto contra é a variedade (ou nesta caso a escassez de variedade). Eram 4 tipos de hamburguers, 3 tipos de pizza e uns 4 tipos de saladas, pouco mais. Achei que tinham mais sobremesas que hamburguers mas na realidade não faz grande diferença, como se costuma dizer, são poucos mas bons. Eu comi o Aretha Franklin (estou de dieta) e o marido como o James Brown, que gostou muito.
As batatas são pedidas á parte, a dose custa uns 4€ mas é generosa (dá para dois) e são óptimas, nunca tinha visto cortadas assim porque parecem umas canoas e talvez seja por isso que são tão boas.

Para sobremesa pedimos o Cheese Cake, eu provei um pedaço e estava delicioso.
Gostámos muito do restaurante, o espaço é pequeno mas acolhedor e o atendimento é óptimo. Entre o Alfredo's e este, creio que prefiro o Peggy Sue principalmente porque descobrimos que temos um perto de casa.
