Um excelente exemplo de um estilo artístico exclusivo do Renascimento Espanhol, o plateresco. Foi propriedade do Conde de Monterrey (que lhe deu o nome) e é actualmente da Duquesa de Alba, a famosa senhora de 85 anos de quem se diz ser proprietária de metade de Espanha e que é uma das mulheres mais conhecidas no seu país.

A sua dimensão é impressionante e podemos apenas imaginar o que farão aqui os Alba quando passam aqui no Verão, a verdade é que sendo um Palácio que funciona como residência da Duquesa não é possível visitar o seu interior.

Uma das laterais do edificio está orientado para a Praça das Augustinas, onde está o seu Convento e Igreja. Também esta construção está ligada ao Conde de Monterrey que o mandou construir para a sua filha que pertencia á Ordem das Augustinas e que vira o convento original destruído por uma inesperada subida do rio.
