We have been living here for more than 2 years and all now I post about ne of the most recognizable and agitated streets of Madrid: the Gran Via.
The first time I walked in it was on the New Year's Eve of 2005, at that time we stayed at the Hotel Mayorazgo that was close by. I remember being dazzled by the fact that it was midnight and there was still a crowd waiting in line to see a play, or a musical or a movie.
It is still that way, the show center of Madrid with it's theatres, musicals, cinemas, shops, restaurants and lots of people, day and night.
It still holds the tittle of Madrid's most agitated street and the best to see the shows, besides the theater and the cinemas, there are stores, restaurants and lots of people walking in it, day and night. If you are coming from Cibelles square, the famous Metrópolis building is the one giving you a "Welcome to Gran Via".
The Telefónica building was for many years the tallest one in the city, it was built in 1929 and it is almost 90 meters tall. Before the expansion of Madrid to other modern areas it was only in Gran Via that you could contemplate the biggest and most elegant buildings in town.
The rest of the city might be already sleeping but Gran Via never does, all thanks to a great cultural and entertainment offer that varies from movies, plays, musicals, concerts, stand-up comedy, etc.. One of it's most iconic buildings is the Capitol cinemas open to public since 1933.
Many famous shows were played in this street, just to name some of them: Mamma Mia, Les Misérables, Lion King, Forever King of Pop and Chicago.
