Today we have discovered ... the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa.
This monumental palace started to be built in the sixteenth century, at the behest of the then Duke of Braganza, D. Jaime. But only in 1640, when another Duque de Bragança ascends the throne of Portugal, this palace becomes the official residence of the royal family.

This king was D. John IV, the equestrian statue of the man who is the center of a yard in front of the Ducal Palace.
Seems to be looking at the Augustinian Church, the plate reads "United States of Brazil" and I believe that date was November 15, 1889, but then got another that says 1940. I assume that was an offer.
A visit to the interior could not be photographed. The ducal palace consists of large rooms more than in many royal palaces. At the end of the monarchy it was used by D. Carlos and his family as a summer residence, the King devoted himself to long days of hunting, away from the political turmoil that was going through the rest of the country and especially in Lisbon.

The King room is virtually intact, and it was here that he slept his last night before the fateful day of February 1, 1908 where he was killed along with his son Don Luís Filipe.
There are several rooms that enchant, I personally enjoyed the room with all the Dukes painted on the ceiling. In these Palaces is always interesting to see the kitchens, for its size both in space as the pots and pans used for cooking royal banquets. And speaking of baquetes, the Dining Room is also a great demonstration of an era of luxury with its marble floor and its decorated ceilings.
We then enter the chamber of the King and Queen that is interconnected, we see the uniforms of D. Carlos saved as if he could go back to using them.
