Built on the river Cher and the center of a great forest, the castle was rebuilt in the sixteenth century, changing it's medieval style to the Renaissance.

On the left the garden of Diana of Poitiers whose walls protect the river floods. At the center is a fountain surrounded by triangles of grass decorated with colorful flowers and small bushes. I found in this garden one of my favorite flowers: tulips.
In the "bâtiment" des Domes, the former royal stables, is a great terrace to rest after the visit. The building that faces the courtyard of honor also houses a wax museum that tells the story of Chenonceau since the Renaissance.
In the park is the labyrinth, created by Catherine de Medici and in the center an arbor (unknown word for me until now), a structure that was used for example to serve tea in the garden and when covered with vines gave a good shade. At its top is a statue of Venus.
In the background, then the labyrinth is a structure of Caryatids, placed in a privileged position in the Castle on the orders of Catherine de Medici, but centuries later, were to be removed and are now back in the spotlight.
Completely designed for leisure and to enjoy nature, the castle park also has a picnic area with a spacious lawn and some shadows.
Right at the exit a "pancake shop" so we could satisfy our hunger with a delicious crêpe with Nutela (unfortunately never got to eat with hot chocolate).

Other ladies followed like Louise of Lorraine or Louise Dupin already in the eighteenth century.

The last owners of the Castle, the Menier family (of chocolates) send parts to rebuild the castle damaged by World War II and today it is the second most visited castle in France.
To welcome you there are two sphinxes at the entrance.

More discreet and small, is the Garden of Catherine de Medici, who curiously is on the opposite side of the Diana of Poitiers.
