Caminhando pelo bairro antigo (a que chamam "casco viejo medieval") chegamos á Praça de Santiago onde está a Catedral com o mesmo nome.
Esta colorida e pequena praça, está rodeada de edificios que ainda hoje guardam o seu estilo original apesar de terem sido restauradas. Ainda hoje podemos vê-la cheia de vida um claro sinal que no seu tempo de maior relevância era o ponto mais central da cidade.
A decorá-la está uma fonte junto á Catedral desenhada por Luís Paret.

O ponto de maior interesse é sem dúvida a Catedral de Santiago, cuja fachada dá para a praça. A sua construção termina no século XVI e o seu estilo é gótico, o seu nome vem de Santiago El Mayor o santo patrono da cidade de Bilbao.
