Dou voltas e voltas a pensar qual o grande encanto de Santiago de Compostela para os que não compartem a fé Cristã. Voltas e voltas a pensar qual é o real interesse da Catedral de Santiago que faz pessoas percorrerem quilómetros e quilómetros a pé para aqui chegarem. Para os que têm fé, para os que acreditam que ali estão na presença de um Apóstolo que comeu ao lado de Jesús Cristos faz todo o sentido e não haverá tantos lugares como este no mundo, mas e os outros?
Eu diría que o mesmo, sejas ou não cristão é impossível ficar indiferente á Catedral e á história que conta, impossível não ter vontade de entrar mesmo arriscando a perder mesa no restaurante que reservámos e nem é das mais bonitas que vimos, mas há todo um respeito e dedicação á sua volta que faz sentir o mesmo.
I go round and round thinking what is the great charm of Santiago de Compostela for those who do not share the Christian faith. Round and round thinking what is the real interest of the Cathedral of Santiago that makes people roam miles and miles on foot to reach here. For those who have faith, to those who believe that they are in the presence of an Apostle who ate beside Jesus Christ it makes total sense and there won't be many places like this in the world, but what about the others?
I would say the same, wether you are Christian or not it's impossible to remain indifferent to the Cathedral and to the story it tells, impossible not to want to get in even risking losing the table we booked at the restaurant and it's not even the nicest we've seen, but there is a whole respect and dedication around it that makes you feel the same.

Entrámos pela Porta Real que nos pareceu ser a Saída (Quintada), lá estamos nós sempre a fazer as coisas ao contrario e claro está saímos pela entrada principal que fica na Praça do Obradoiro. Não tivémos aquele primeiro impacto de tamanho e ficar impressionado com o ornamentado altar.
Queríamos ver duas coisas na Catedral, o túmulo de Santiago e o botafumeiro. Este último é igualmente famoso e é utilizado para afastar os maus odores da Catedral, para o fazer são necessários oito homens que o fazem baloiçar. Ao centro do Altar Mayor está uma imagem do Apóstolo Santiago e por trás podemos ver a porta que dá acesso á pequena cripta onde está o túmulo com os seus restos mortais. Por momentos achámos que não a poderíamos visitar porque uma placa indicava que os horários eram de segunda-feira a domingo das 9h-14h e das 16h-20h30, estávamos exactamente nesse intervalo para o almoço mas surpreendentemente as portas estavam abertas. Entram poucas pessoas de cada vez, é um espaço pequeno e o túmulo vê-se ao longe.
Ainda no Altar Mayor podes subir e ver os seus "bastidores".

The latter is also famous and is used to ward off bad odors from the Cathedral, it needs the eight men to make it swing. This only happens in a few days a year that can be seen here: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botafumeiro.At the center of the Altar Mayor is an image of the Apostle Santiago and we can see behind the door that gives access to the small crypt where the tomb with his remains. At that time we felt that we could not visit as a sign indicating the times of visit said Monday to Sunday from 9h-14h and 16h-20h30, we were exactly in that lunch break but surprisingly the doors were open. Only a few people at a time can go in, it's a small space and the tomb is seen in the distance.
