The best way to see the Marienplatz is from the tower of the Peterskirche, it's the only way to escape the crowd that gathers there to get one of his famous free guided tours and see the Rathaus-Glockenspiel with its dance of characters that happen at eleven am and again at noon.

Here we find two important monuments, the Neues Rathaus which is the most imposing of the square, it was built in the nineteenth century and is the municipal chamber. The other was the old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) whose first construction dates back to the fourteenth century was later rebuilt in the nineteenth century. In the latter building, Joseph Goebbels made the speech that would start the Kristallnacht. In November 9th 1938, the Nazis launch a wave of destruction of synagogues and shops that were owned by Jews. Today we visit there the Toy Museum which is housed in the tower.
I have to be honest, it was difficult to enjoy the square as we walked through it, there was too many people and everytime I turned my back I was going against someone, the construction works also did not help and finally got to see it with different eyes after climbing all those steps of Peterskirche , it was really worth it.
