I recently saw the movie "Chef" from John Favreu about a cook of a good restaurant that gets a bad review and loses the job, goes back to the source of his passion for cooking through the simplicity of street food traveling with his renewed caravan selling delicious Cuban sandwiches. I liked the film, his relationship with his son and his reunion with the true essence of food, I was so eager to try something like that that when I saw on the web the buzz around Madreat I went running.
We and half of Madrid. It was crowded and the first advice is to go early. The location was excellent, the Botanical Garden of Complutense (the area of the University of Madrid) and in the street were several caravans that served dishes from some of the best chefs in the city, with proposals ranging from gourmet sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, tacos, "ensaimadas", etc. ..
In the crowd we managed to find a decent line where we waited about fifteen minutes later to say they we were out of bread, it was actually a little frustrating and by seeing so many other posts also filled we started to despair. Until we arrived at El Chirinwito! (http://elchirinwito.com/ ) with snacks of Andalusia as a Ajomelón with gamba of Medina y amontillado and a "croquetas de puchero".

Then we stopped in La Cabezuela Cheese (http://www.quesoslacabezuela.com/) where we tasted the cheese balls and tacos. For dessert one Ensaima of Mallorca from Formentor (http://www.formentorensaimadas.com/). In the end we spent about 15-20 euros per person because this street food is not cheap but it is a good eating experience that seeks to join the concept with the quality food.
Is scheduled for the third weekend of each month and I hope they improve some things that didn't go so well, admittedly may have had more people than expected. Some of the busiest were La Finca (with a big sign saying Meat), the Arzábal and La Virgen.
