Não tenho dedos nas mãos suficientes para contar o número de vezes que passei por esta igreja e nunca entrei, os motivos foram vários mas a grande maioria foi por estar fechada. Também é certo que o único dia em que consegui entrar foi durante uma missa o que não ajudou a conhecer o seu interior ao detalhe mas já foi possível ter uma ideia. Inicialmente um mosteiro que foi concedido pela Rainha Isabel a Católica, foi lugar de várias cerimónias reais principalmente a juras dos herdeiros da coroa, os Principes das Astúrias e foi também palco da coroação de Juan Carlos I.

It is also true that the only day I could get was during a mass which did not help to discover the inside in detail but it was possible to have an idea. Initially a monastery which was granted by Queen Isabel the Catholic, was the place of many royal ceremonies mainly oaths of Crown heirs, the Princes of Asturias and was also the scene of the coronation of Juan Carlos I.

Foi construída em 1505 mas sofreu várias remodelações, o seu interior é simples e dizem que um dos motivos é o facto de ter sido parcialmente destruído á passagem das tropas francesas no século XIX durante a Guerra da Independência. É no reinado de Isabel II que se dá a maior remodelação e o exterior que podemos ver hoje com o estilo neo-gótico.
O altar-mor não é dos mais elaborados que podemos ver numa igreja em Madrid, chegou a ter um monumental retablo mas hoje destaca-se um colossal quadro de Rafael Tejeo. Houve tempo ainda para ver o presépio (Belém) montado logo á entrada.
