Enhancing the panoramic view of Salamanca is the Catedral Nueva de la Asunción de la Virgen, built beside the Cathedral Vieja.
The first view we have of it is from the Plaza de Anaya where we can see two doors the North and the Palm. The latter gets its name from Palm Sunday, the day Jesus entered Jerusalem and whose event is represented through sculptures that we see over the door.

This side facade we can see the dome of the Cathedral of baroque style that blends the gothic style that characterizes its exterior.
We then go to the main facade where we find the Birth Door. The impressive façade has a permanent admirer the statue of the Bishop of Salamanca, Padre Câmara placed in a small square in front of it. And he is not the only one, built with so much detail it takes some time to read the story told by each sculpture that adorns the facade, time ... and some pills for pain that we have in the neck.
As it's name is Birth, it shows the day that Jesus came into the world as well as the visit of the Three Kings. At the top of the door there's a representation of a crucified Christ which closes the loop on his life.
The interior is equally remarkable and rich in decorative details, right at the entrance we can see them on an altar where the columns are all worked. Behind it the choir is designed by Churriguera in a Baroque style of excessive detail they called the "churrigueresco."
The nave complies with the Gothic style of much of the cathedral. Its construction began in the sixteenth century in the space adjacent to the old Cathedral and it was during the reign of the Catholic Kings that it started to be planed but D. Fernando did not get to see it standing.

Its organ is stunning, richly adorned with cherubs and gold accents. In one of the chapels ahead we found a nativity set equiped with small rivers and mills, with Jesus in the manger. The space was too small for everyone who wanted to contemplate it.

At the center there's the admirable dome, perhaps the best of all the cathedral and another good reason to turn to a masseur because of the pain in the neck. We couldn't go up to a walkway that allows you to see the Cathedral from a higher point, we thought that we might reach the ceiling of the dome there but sadly they announced they were about close (it was 1p.m.).
One of the chapels that impressed me most was that of Soledad, where the saint is in a Baroque altarpiece designed by Joaquín Churriguera. I think what touched us most was the fact that she was all dressed in black, something rare in the images of saints and she wears white when it comes out through the streets of Salamanca in the procession of Holy Week.

Another sign asks for silence in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, it wasn't really necessary to impose silence because it imposes for itself. In particular a small urn containing the forearm of the Blessed Julian Rodriguez, who along with other companions became martyrs of a massacre against the church.

And unfortunately we could not see much more because the voice coming out of a speaker asked us to leave the Cathedral. We do promise to come back and see it more in detail.
