Two years ago when we were for the first time in Costa Brava we went to Calella de Palafruguell, we went to the beach but the sky was covered with clouds and we decided to take a walk. That's how we discovered the Canadell beach and regreted the uninviting weather that did not allow us to take a dip. This year we decided we had to go and had a few good hours of beach there.
The sand is small pebbles, water is transparent and at a good temperature (although this year I found it to be cooler). It is very popular with Spanish families especially in the area of Catalonia and it was full when we arrived but as it approached the lunch hour was getting empty.
There were two things that we really liked seeing the first was the small fisherman's cottages which lead directly to the beach, I was hallucinating with that possibility to sleep glued to the beach and when you get up in the morning you have one foot in the sand. The other was the sidewalk that gives access to the beach has some vilas from the nineteenth century.
Parking can be tricky, we took a few turns through the area and managed to find a spot, if that fails there is a paid parking at the entrance of Calella.
