HERMAN ZE GERMAN - LONDRES, INGLATERRA

Comer a um bom preço em Londres não é fácil e o melhor é nem converter as libras em euros porque a situação fica ainda pior, mas o Herman Ze German foi uma das refeições mais económicas que tivemos durante a nossa estadia e poderia ter sido ainda mais barata não fosse ter pedido demasiada comida. Têm mais restaurantes mas o que fomos está na zona de Charing Cross ao lado da estação, numa rua estreita quase escondida para provar os seus bratwurst.

MADAME TUSSAUDS - LONDRES, INGLATERRA

Confissão: adoro ir ao Madame Tussauds. Volto a ser criança, a saltar de alegria por ver o Tom Hanks de perto ou esperar na fila ansiosa por tirar uma fotografia com o E.T.. A primeira vez que fui ao de Londres teria uns quinze anos e adorei tocar em estrelas que admirava nos ecrãs sem os conhecer de carne e osso, na realidade aqui também não mas entras nesse mundo da ilusão em que podes tirar uma selfie com a Mockingjay.

Confession: I love going to Madame Tussauds. Back to being a child, jumping with joy seeing Tom Hanks so close or wait in a queue eager to take a picture with the ET. The first time I went to the one in London I was fifteen and loved touching stars I admired the screens without knowing them in the flesh, in reality here you don't either but you enter this world of illusion in which you can take a selfie with the Mockingjay.

PATTY & BUN - LONDRES, INGLATERRA

Tinha visto recomendações na TimeOut sobre o Patty&Bun, falam de um dos melhores hamburguers da cidade de Londres e sentimos a obrigação de os provar. Fomos ao que está na James Street e estava cheio, gente fora á espera alguns já com um ar desesperado como no nosso caso estamos a falar de uma mesa para dois conseguimos rapidamente entrar na sua pequena sala com pouco mais de trinta lugares sentados. E quando provas os hamburguers entendes porque é que há fila fora...valem mesmo a pena.

I had seen recommendations on TimeOut about Patty & Bun, they spoke about one of the best burgers in the city of London and we felt obliged to taste them. We went to the one on James Street and was full, there were people outside waiting witha desperate look in their faces but as in our case we are talking about a table for two we could quickly enter their small room with just over thirty seats. And when you taste the hamburgers you understand why there is queue outside ... it's quite worth it.

BOULANGERIE DU THÉÂTRE - CAEN, FRANÇA

Alugar uma casa no Airbnb tem várias vantagens mas há uma que talvez tenha que ver com a sorte, no nosso caso quando fomos a Caen ficámos num bonito apartamento no centro da cidade e com uma carta dos proprietários (escrita em francês é certo) que recomendava alguns sitios para comer além de dar algumas indicações úteis como localização de farmácias, supermercados, etc.. Mas a melhor de todas foi mesmo a da Boulangerie du Théâtre onde recomendavam comprar os bolos para o pequeno-almoço e foi uma autêntica descoberta.

Renting a house in Airbnb has several advantages but there is one that may have to do with luck, in our case when we went to Caen we were in a beautiful apartment in the city center and a nice letter from the owner (written in French its true) which recommended some places to eat besides giving some useful information such as location of pharmacies, supermarkets, etc .. But the best of all was the Boulangerie du Théâtre in which they recommended buying cakes for breakfast and it was a real discovery.

IGREJA SAINT-PIERRE - CAEN, ESPANHA

A melhor vista para a Igreja de Saint-Pierre é desde o Castelo de Caen, só do alto das suas muralhas conseguimos ter uma foto completa já que a sua torre tem cerca de setenta e cinco metros de altura. De estilo gótico, a primeira construção data do século XIII mas foi sofrendo alterações até ao século XVI. Também ela sobreviveu á II Guerra Mundial, o que teve que ser reconstruído foi exatamente essa torre que estava de pé desde o século XIV.

The best views of the Church of Saint-Pierre is from the Castle of Caen, only from the top of its walls we can have a complete picture as its tower has about seventy-five meters high. Has a Gothic style, the first construction is from the thirteenth century but has undergone changes until the sixteenth century.It also survived World War II and what had to be rebuilt was exactly the tower that stood there since the fourteenth century.

CASTELO DUCAL - CAEN, FRANÇA

Entrei no Castelo de Caen á espera de ver o normal: muralhas, uma torre de menagem, ruínas, algum canhão e com sorte um pequeno museu ou salas preservadas, não defraudou mas aqui encontras muito mais que isso, no seu interior estão dois museus importantes o de Belas Artes e o da Normandia. Um sobrevivente da Guerra dos Cem Anos e da Segunda Guerra Mundial mas não sem mazelas que foram sendo recuperadas ao longo de estes anos.

I entered the Château de Caen waiting to see the usual: walls, a tower, ruins, some cannons and hopefully a small museum or preserved rooms, not defrauded but you will find that here there is huch more than that, inside are two important museums the Fine Arts and the Normandy. A survivor of the War of the Hundred Years and the Second World War but not without blemishes that have been recovered over the years.

LE BOUCHON DU VAUGUEUX - CAEN, FRANÇA

A zona do Vaugueux é uma das mais animadas de Caen no que diz respeito a bares e restaurantes, fica aos pés do Castelo muito perto da Igreja de Saint Pierre e é conhecida pela sua oferta gastronómica onde sem dúvida destacaria o Le Bouchon, cuja tradução seria rolha. Não é muito grande talvez por isso sentimos um ambiente mais intimo e até romântico, a carta na sua maioria com receitas da região divide-se em menus com dois pratos e uma sobremesa.

The area of Vaugueux is one of the liveliest of Caen with regard to bars and restaurants, is at the foot of the Castle very near to the Church of Saint Pierre and is known for its gastronomic offer which undoubtedly I would highlight the Le Bouchon, whose translation would be cork. It's not very big so maybe feel a more intimate and even romantic atmosphere, the letter mostly with recipes of the region is divided into menu with two dishes and a dessert.

MUSEU DO MEMORIAL DE CAEN - CAEN, FRANÇA

O Museu do Memorial de Caen foi o último que visitámos sobre a II Guerra Mundial, depois de visitar as praias, o cemitério americano, ver alguns documentários nos vários museus por onde passámos aqui demos por encerrado um capítulo das nossas férias em França que foi culturalmente interessante mas que não deixa de relembrar um passado muito negro. Vimos várias exposições e não explorámos ao máximo porque chegámos uma hora e meia antes de fechar mas foi o suficiente para conhecer ainda mais sobre este momento da história e chegar a ter pele de galinha quando ouvimos numa sala escura a voz furiosa de Hitler.

The Memorial Museum of Caen was the last we visited on World War II, after visiting the beaches, the American cemetery, seeing some documentaries in the various museums where we went to,  here we closed a chapter of our holiday in France that was culturally interesting but not without remembering a very dark past. We saw several exhibitions and didn't explore to the fullest because we arrived a half hour before closing but it was enough to know even more about this moment in history and get to have goose bumps when we heard in a dark room the raging voice of Hitler.

CALLEJÓN JORGE JUAN - MADRID, ESPANHA

O bairro de Salamanca é um dos mais animados no que diz respeito a restaurantes e a compras que se espalham entre ruas como a Goya, Serrano e Velazquez outras são menos conhecidas mas têm lojas igualmente interessantes de marcas mais pequenas ou menos comerciais como por exemplo a Calle Lagasca e a Jorge Juan e justamente ao passar por esta última encontrámos o que chamam de Callejón, uma colorida rua sem saída com pequenas lojas com algumas marcas conhecidas.

The neighborhood of Salamanca is one of the liveliest in regards to restaurants and shopping that spread from streets like Goya, Serrano and Velazquez others are lesser known but with equally interesting shops of smaller brands or less commercial such as Calle Lagasca and Jorge Juan and just passing by the latter have found what they call Callejón, a colorful dead-end street with little shops with some well-known brands.

FARO DE MONCLOA - MADRID, ESPANHA

Reabriu o ano passado um dos pontos mais altos de Madrid depois de uma década fechado por motivos de segurança, o Faro de Moncloa tem cento e dez metros de altura e foi inaugurado em 1992 a tempo para as celebrações da Capital Europeia da Cultura. O seu nome original era a Torre de Iluminação e Comunicação, dizem que seria para ajudar a controlar o trânsito numa das mais movimentadas entradas para o centro de Madrid mas logo na abertura surgiram alguns problemas com a torre e em 2005 por não cumprir todas as normas de segurança fechou até 2015...

Reopened last year one of the highest points of Madrid after a decade closed for security reasons, the Faro de Moncloa is hundred and ten meters high and was opened in 1992 in time for the celebrations of the European Capital of Culture. Its original name was the Tower Light and Communications, said it would be to help control traffic in one of the busiest entrances to the center of Madrid but in the opening there were some problems with the tower and in 2005 because it did not meet all standards security closed 2015 ...

PERRACHICA - MADRID, ESPANHA

O bairro de Chamberí é um dos meus favoritos de Madrid e dos que continua a ganhar novos restaurantes como este Perrachica dos mesmos de Marieta e Pipa & Co (Grupo Larrumba) e isso nota-se tanto na carta como na decoração que é simplesmente extraordinária. Reservámos antes de ir e os únicos dias disponíveis eram a segunda e a terça, está sempre cheio e é o novo lugar da moda, para ver e ser visto.

The Chamberí neighborhood is one of my favorites Madrid and it continues to gain new restaurants like this Perrachica of the some owners of Marieta and Pipa & Co (Larrumba Group) and it shows both in the menu and in decor that is just extraordinary. We made a reservation before we went and the only days available were monday and thuesday, it is always full and is the new trendy place to see and be seen.

TEKOE - MADRID, ESPANHA

Tekoe é um Tea-bar com loja que vende "sorprendentes mezclas" de chá no Bairro das Letras e que encontrei por acaso enquanto fazia tempo á espera do marido, na altura ia pela rua a pensar no bom que seria encontrar uma casa de chá e num golpe de magia tropecei com este sitio. A ideia surgiu na Suiça em 2002 e o seu espaço serve também para fazer provas de chá para além de falar sobre os beneficios que cada um pode trazer.

Tekoe is a Tea-bar with a shop that sells "sorprendentes mezclas" of tea in the Barrio de las Letras and I met by chance while doing time waiting for my husband and I was going down the street thinking of how good it would be to find a tea house and by magic stumbled on this place. The idea was born in Switzerland in 2002 and it also makes tea tastings as well as talk about the benefits that each can bring.

TABERNA LA CONCHA - MADRID, ESPANHA

Quando andas pela Cava Baja vês que cada número de porta é um bar. Qual escolher? Qual é o melhor? É difícil e complicado, cada um terá o seu prato estrela e também depende do que procuras. No caso desta Taberna queríamos comer umas tapas com a cerveja, algo mais ligeiro para abrir o apetite para o jantar e conseguimos cumprir o objetivo num ambiente castiço. Com as primeiras cervejas veio uma tapa cortesía da casa, uma colher de arroz negro com um toque de ali oli.

When you walk by the Cava Baja you can see that each door number is a bar. Which to choose? What is the best? It is difficult and complicated, each might have its star dish and also depends on what you are looking for. In the case of this Taberna we wanted to eat some tapas with beer, something lighter to work up an appetite for dinner and we were able to meet the goal in this more typical environment. With the first beer came the first "tapa" courtesy of the house, a spoon of black rice with a touch of ali oli.

LAS VISTILLAS - MADRID, ESPANHA

Queria conhecer Las Vistillas e saber se o nome tinha algo que ver com uma vista privilegiada para uma parte de Madrid que hoje não conseguimos ver bem desde o Viaduto de Segóvia porque está vedado (demasiadas mortes por suicidio), na realidade teve no tempo em que o jardim foi criado mas entre todo o arvoredo consegui ver apenas uma parte da Catedral de Almudena. Ainda assim tem detalhes interessantes e é um lugar sossegado onde se pode fugir do reboliço da cidade para ler um livro ou namorar como por ali vi.

I wanted to see Las Vistillas and whether the name had something to do with a privileged view of a part of Madrid that today we can not see well from the Viaduct Segovia because it is forbidden (too many deaths from suicide) actually had at the time the garden was created but among all the trees you could see only part of the Almudena Cathedral. Still has interesting details and is a quiet place where you can escape the city hustle to read a book or dating as seen through there.

BURGER JOINT - MADRID, ESPANHA

Assim que descobri que o Burger Joint tinha uma sucursal em Madrid não pude resistir, tínhamos que experimentar e marcou a nossa primeira gastronómica do ano na capital. Queríamos ver se eram como os do primeiro Burger Joint em Nova Iorque e já lá vão dois anos mas lembro-me exactamente de esses suculentos hamburguers que nos fizeram chupar os dedos, o mesmo não posso dizer dos de Madrid porque são ligeiramente diferentes mas são muito bons e podem competir com os melhores da cidade.

Once I discovered that the Burger Joint had a branch in Madrid I could not resist, we had to try and it was our first food experience of the new year in the capital. We wanted to see if they were as the first Burger Joint in New York and it was two years ago but I remember exactly those juicy burgers that made us lick our fingers, the same can not be said  for the ones of Madrid because they are slightly different but are very good and can compete with the best in town.

SAN JERONIMO EL REAL - MADRID, ESPANHA

Não tenho dedos nas mãos suficientes para contar o número de vezes que passei por esta igreja e nunca entrei, os motivos foram vários mas a grande maioria foi por estar fechada. Também é certo que o único dia em que consegui entrar foi durante uma missa o que não ajudou a conhecer o seu interior ao detalhe mas já foi possível ter uma ideia. Inicialmente um mosteiro que foi concedido pela Rainha Isabel a Católica, foi lugar de várias cerimónias reais principalmente a juras dos herdeiros da coroa, os Principes das Astúrias e foi também palco da coroação de Juan Carlos I.

I do not have enough fingers in my hands to count the number of times I passed this church and never got in, the reasons were different but the vast majority was that it was closed. It is also true that the only day I could get was during a mass which did not help to discover the inside in detail but it was possible to have an idea. Initially a monastery which was granted by Queen Isabel the Catholic, was the place of many royal ceremonies mainly oaths of Crown heirs, the Princes of Asturias and was also the scene of the coronation of Juan Carlos I.

ATLANTIK CORNER - MADRID, ESPANHA

Comecei a ver um burburinho na blogosfera madrilenha sobre um restaurante de um dono português e com um chef galego além disso com fotos interessantes de alguns pratos que reconhecemos e de uma decoração interior moderna como se tivesse aberto algo novo em Lisboa mas felizmente está mais perto de nós na Ventura de la Vega em pleno bairro das Letras. Foi uma excelente descoberta, não é um restaurante português convencional, adapta-se perfeitamente á cidade onde está com uma cozinha onde o bacalhau á brás marca presença mas nem sequer é o melhor prato. Chegámos a trocar umas palavras com o dono, o Nuno que para espalha a sua simpatia pela sala assim como todos os que ali trabalham.

I began to see a buzz in Madrid's blogosphere about a restaurant of a Portuguese owner and a Galician chef also with interesting photos of some dishes that we recognize and modern interior design as if it had opened something new in Lisbon but fortunately is closer to we in Ventura de la Vega right in the Barrio de las Letras. It was a great discovery, is not a conventional Portuguese restaurant, adapts perfectly to the city where you are with a kitchen where Bacalhau a Bras (cod with eggs and potatoes) is present but is not even the best dish. We came to have a word with the owner, Nuno that to spread its sympathy thoughout the room as well as all those who work there.

FREYUNG PASSAGE - VIENA, ÁUSTRIA

Esta elegante passagem liga duas ruas do centro de Viena: a Freyung e a Herrengasse, dizem que entrou em decadência e que os lojistas fugiram de aqui mas depois de ter sido reabilitado é agora um lugar com um toque mágico. Entrámos pelo o lado do Palácio de Ferstel o mesmo nome do arquiteto que o criou no século XIX e que foi o autor da Votivkirche, uma igreja criada depois do atentado ao Imperador Francisco José I.

This elegant passage connects two Vienna downtown streets: the Freyung and Herrengasse, they say it fell into decay and shopkeepers fled from here but after being rehabilitated is now a place with a magical touch. We entered by the side of the Ferstel Palace the name of the architect who created it in the nineteenth century and was the author of the Votivkirche, a church established after the attempt to Emperor Franz Joseph I.

CAFE RESIDENZ - VIENA, ÁUSTRIA

Partilha ementa com o Café Museum e o Hofburg por isso não aporta grandes novidades no capítulo culinário o que realmente dá mais valor ao Residenz é o facto de estar em pleno Palácio de Schönbrunn com um interior que achei um pouco antiquado (achei os outros dois mais interessantes) mas com detalhes que lhe dão algum charme como por exemplo o pianista ao fundo da sala ou o móvel de balcão com a vitrina de doces como se vivessemos no principio do século XX.

It shares the menu with the Cafe Museum and the Hofburg so it did not brings major innovations in the culinary chapter but what really adds more value to the Residenz is the fact that it is in the Schönbrunn Palace with an interior that I thought was a bit dated (I found the other two more interesting) but with details that give it some charm such as a pianist at the back of the room or the bar furniture with the candy shop window as if we lived in the beginning of the twentieth century.

MERCADO NATAL SCHÖNBRUNN - VIENA, ÁUSTRIA

Viena tem vários mercados de Natal, dois deles já colocámos aqui no blog e um dos mais famosos é o do Rathausplatz mas visitar um que está aos pé de um Palácio é sem dúvida muito interessante e surpreendente. Ao centro da praça uma grande árvore de Natal que durante a noite se ilumina e as várias bancas vendem produtos artesanais alguns podemos ver noutros mercados mas ainda assim é sempre interessante ver as velas feitas á mão, os enfeites em porcelana e pintados á mão ou os esculpidos em madeira, entre outros produtos. 

Vienna has several Christmas markets, two of them I already published on the blog and one of the most famous is the Rathausplatz but to visit one that at the feet of a Palace is certainly very interesting and surprising. At the center of the square a large Christmas tree that during the night light's up and various stalls sell handicrafts some we can see in other markets yet it is always interesting to see the handmade candles, the ornaments in porcelainand hand painted or carved in wood, among other products.
