Acabo de ver uma noticia sobre a campa de Francisco Franco que está na Basilica que visitámos este fim de semana no Vale dos Caídos, ainda hoje o monumento está envolto em polémica e volta aos noticiários porque o governo pondera devolver os restos mortais de Franco á sua familia retirando-o do lugar que mandou construir em honra aos que morreram durante a Guerra Civil Espanhola, segundo li de ambos os lados.

Quando vi que este Domingo o tempo ia oferecer-nos um céu limpo não hesitei em planificar um passeio para os lados da serra e aproveitar para conhecer o Valle de los Caídos. Pesquisei na internet uma opção de um bom restaurante na zona do El Escorial mas que não fosse muito caro...parecía missão impossível mas encontrámos o 081 Napoli.

É mais um restaurante italiano a juntar á nossa lista, gerido por italianos foi como se estivéssemos a comer lá porque as pizzas eram de boa qualidade e foi em conta porque pagámos 14€ por pessoa.

 

When I saw that this Sunday the weather was going to offer us a clear sky I did not hesitate to plan a trip to the mountain and get to know the Valley of the Fallen. I searched the internet for a good option restaurant in the area of ​​El Escorial but that was not too expensive ... it looked like mission impossible but we found the 081 Napoli.
It's an Italian restaurant to join to our list, run by Italians and it was as if we were eating there because the pizzas were of good quality and at a average price because we paid around 14€ per person.

eat: ALMA LUSA - MADRID, ESPANHA

O plano para o nosso Sábado incluía almoçar em Madrid e optámos pelo o Alma Lusa. Já antes tínhamos passado por esta rua quando fomos ao brunch da Revoltosa no bairro da Chueca e ficámos de experimentar. Claro está que nunca mais nos lembrámos e ontem num blog vi umas fotos que me levaram ao website do fotógrafo Bruno Rascão e ao video que fez sobre o restaurante português na capital espanhola.

 

The plan for our Saturday included lunch in Madrid and we opted for the Alma Lusa. We had passed this street before when we went to have brunch at the Revoltosa in the neighborhood of Chueca and decided to give it a try today. It is clear that we forgot it and in a blog I saw yesterday there were some pictures that led me to the website of photographer Bruno Rascão and the video he made about this Portuguese restaurant in the Spanish capital.

eat: GINOS - MAJADAHONDA, ESPANHA

Quando decidi escrever este blog quería fazer primeiro para partilhar e registrar as minhas experiências e depois recomendar ajudando a quem visita os mesmos lugares a terem algumas referências porque é a forma como eu pesquiso na WWW. Creio que o Ginos é um bom exemplo de um post que quero que fique como registro de um restaurante mas não será um sitio que recomendó a quem visita Madrid porque afinal quem o faz procura algo mais genuíno. Ginos pertence a uma grande cadeia de restaurantes que se chama VIPS, a sua principal vantagem é que escolhes os teus prato favoritos e voltas porque têm sempre o mesmo sabor, a sua qualidade (não sendo espectacular) difícilmente muda.

 

When I decided to write this blog I first wanted to share and record my experiences and then help by recommending to anyone visiting the same places to have some references because it's how I search the WWW. I believe Ginos is a good example of a post that I want to record a restaurant but not exactly recommend it to anyone visiting Madrid because after all one does demand something more genuine. Ginos belongs to a large chain of restaurants called VIPS, its main advantage is that you have your favorite dish and always comeback because they keep the same taste, the quality (not being spectacular) hardly changes.

Sentadas a tomar o brunch no Grande Hotel do Porto começámos a planear a nossa tarde que parecia estar comprometida pela chuva e tínhamos claro que queríamos ir a um museu, o primeiro nome foi o da Fundação de Serralves. É um museu de arte contemporânea cujo projecto de arquitectura este a cargo de Álvaro Siza.

 

Sitting down having brunch at Grande Hotel do Porto we started to plan our afternoon that seemed to be compromised by rain and clear that we wanted to go to a museum, the first name that came up was of the Serralves Foundation. It is a contemporary art museum whose architectural Project was designed by Alvaro Siza.

O bilhete do Museu dá acesso á Casa e ao Parque que foi a minha parte preferida de todo o complexo Fundação Serralves. Porque é a junção de propriedades que o Conde de Vizela foi adquirindo e em alturas diferentes, o parque tem zonas distintas algumas do século XIX e outras que foram construídas na mesma altura que a casa.

É talvez um dos locais mais românticos da cidade, excelente para planos de fim de semana mas de preferencia para dias mais soleados que o que apanhámos quando o visitámos.

The Museum ticket also gives access to the House and the Park which was my favorite part of the whole complex Serralves Foundation. Because it is the junction of the Count of Vizela's properties that were acquired at different times, the park ended up having distinct areas some of the nineteenth century and others were built at the same time as the house.
It is perhaps one of the most romantic  places in the city, a great plan  for the weekend but preferably in days with more sun tan the one we had when we visited.

É um dos melhores exemplos da arquitectura "Art Déco" do país e um dos monumentos mais relevantes da cidade do Porto. Tenho que admitir que não é o meu estilo arquitectónico preferido mas a casa não deixa de ser muito interesante pela sua história, por quem nela viveu e pelo o que é hoje.

Começou por ser propriedade do segundo Conde de Vizela, filho de um dos maiores empresários fabris do país que encomendou a obra a Charles Siclis que a terminou a 1944.

 

It is one of the finest examples of architecture "Art Deco" in the country and one of the most important monuments of the city of Porto. I have to admit is not my favorite architectural style but the house is nonetheless very interesting for its history, for those who lived in it and by what it is today.
Began to be property of the second Earl of Vizela, son of one of the country's largest manufacturing entrepreneurs who commissioned the work to Charles Siclis that ended in 1944.

eat: BRUNCH NO GRANDE HOTEL - PORTO, PORTUGAL

Quando cheguei ao Porto no Sábado dei uma voltinha para fazer tempo para que chegasse uma amiga, passei na Rua Santa Catarina e parei na fachada do Grande Hotel onde um cartaz anunciava o seu Brunch de Domingo. Não sabia muito bem os nossos planos para o fim de semana mas depois de consultar o preço (14€ por pessoa) ficou decidido. Abria ao meio-dia mas fomos um pouco antes o que nos permitiu conhecer o histórico hotel inaugurado em 1880.

 

When I arrived in Porto on Saturday I went for a stroll while waiting for a friend to arrive, I was walking by Santa Catarina Street and stopped in front of the Grand Hotel where a poster was announcing their Sunday Brunch. I did not know very well our plans for the weekend but after consulting the price (14 € per person) we had decided. It opened at noon but we went earlier  allowing us to explore the historic hotel that opened in 1880.

Este último fim de semana que passei no Porto foi sem dúvida um dos mais curiosos que tive. Primeiro, ficámos hospedadas no Hotel do Norte que fica junto á Rua Sta. Catarina e que custou 50€ para três pessoas, depois reservámos uma massagem no SPA do Yeatman que é um hotel de cinco estrelas, um dos mais luxuosos da cidade cuja noite pode rondar os 300€. Fica na zona de Vila Nova de Gaia junto ás grandes casas produtoras de vinho Porto e com uma vista para a cidade que é simplesmente fantástica.

 

This last weekend I spent in Porto was undoubtedly one of the more curious I had. First, we were staying at the Hotel do Norte which is near the St. Catarina Street and it was just 50€ for three people, then we booked a massage at the Yeatman's SPA which is a five-star hotel, one of the city's most luxurious a night can cost around 300€. It is in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia with the big houses that produce Port wine and a view over the city that is simply fantastic.

São infinitamente mais as vezes que quero ir a um SPA que na realidade vou. Adoro todo o conceito de relaxamento e tranquilidade destes espaços mas fico sempre a pensar se com o dinheiro que gastamos. Desta vez ia determinada a aproveitar, oferecemo-nos um mimo e ainda para mais num sitio com uma localização "inmejorable" como dizem os espanhóis, no SPA Caudalie Vinothérapie do Hotel Yeatman.

 

The times I want to go to a SPA are thousands more tan the ones I really. I love the whole relaxing and peaceful concept of this type of places but I keep thing about the money we spend in it. This time I was determined to enjoy it, offering myself a good treat and specially in this amazing location, "inmejorable" has the spanish say, in the Hotel Yeatman's Caudelie Vinothérapie Spa.

shop: MERCADO DO BOLHÃO - PORTO, PORTUGAL

Ontem ia a escrever sobre este Mercado quando vi este um post neste blog: Los Apuntes del Viajero a falar do Mercado de La Boquería de Barcelona e acabei por fechar o blogger pensando porque é que o Bolhão não podía ser assim? Ao ver as suas fotos e as minhas (que é verdade que não sou grande fotógrafa) ficou ainda mais claro, são dois mundos á parte mas deixou-me com um pouco de esperança que os bons exemplos de fora inspirem o Porto e os responsáveis do Bolhão porque na minha (humilde e pouco especializada) opinião precisa de uma renovação e não uma transformação em shopping center porque a cidade já tem suficientes.

 

Yesterday I was going to write about this market when I saw this one in this blog post: Los Apuntes del Viajero talking about La Boqueria Market in Barcelona and ended up closing blogger wondering why the Bolhão could not be like this? Seeing his photos and mine (it's true that I am no great photographer) became even more clear, they are two worlds apart but left me with some hope that good examples from outside may inspire Porto and the leaders of Bolhão because in my (humble and low skilled) opinion it needs a makeover and not a transformation to a shopping center because the city has enough.

eat: FRANCESINHA NA BAIXA 2013 - PORTO, PORTUGAL

Eu diría que é obrigatório comer uma francesinha quando estamos no Porto e pelos vistos acertei em cheio no fim de semana para visitar esta cidade porque consegui ir aos últimos dias do Francesinha na Baixa. Um festival dedicado a esta iguaria local (e também bomba calórica) que teve lugar este ano na Praça D. João I e que foi desde o dia 3 até ao 13 de Outubro.

Presentes no evento alguns restaurantes que têm a francesinha como sua especialidade: Santiago, Capa Negra, BB Gourmet e Cufra.

 

I would say that it is mandatory to eat a Francesinha (it's a Porto speciality, a sandwich with steak, ham, sausages, cheese covered with a tomato and beer sauce)  when we are in Porto and apparently picked the right weekend to visit this city because I got to go to the last days of Francesinha na Baixa (Francesinha downtown). A festival dedicated to this local delicacy (and calorie bomb) which took place this year at Square D. João I  from 3 till 13th of October.
Attending the event where some restaurants that have a Francesinhas has specialty: Santiago, Capa Negra, BB Gourmet and Cufra.

SCHLADMING - ÁUSTRIA

Este post não foi fácil escrever porque não consigo encontrar palavras para descrever o quanto gostei de Schladming, o quanto eu desejaria que a aldeia do meu pai fosse assim com umas vistas fantásticas para a zona central dos Alpes e preservando o encanto que as casas desta região têm.

Sou fã de praia e o Verão para mim tem que ter mar e sol, mas depois de passear em Agosto por esta região entendo porque muitos optam pela montanha para passar as suas férias.

 

This post was not easy to write because I can not find words to describe how much I enjoyed Schladming, how I wish that my father's village was like this with it's fantastic views to the central zone of the Alps and preserving the charm that the houses of that are have.
I am a fan of the beach and summer for me it has to have sun and sea, but after visiting in August this región I understand why many opt for the mountain to spend their vacation.

do: CATEDRAL DE SALZBURGO, ÁUSTRIA

A 1 de Maio de 1959 a Catedral ou "Dom" de Salzburgo voltou a abrir as suas portas para todos os que quisessem assistir á primeira missa depois da II Guerra Mundial e da reconstrução da cúpula que ficou totalmente destruída após um bombardeio. Hoje podemos apreciar essa mesma cúpula e os frescos que nela estão pintados, há que estar preparado para passar algum tempo a olhar para cima.

O nosso bilhete combinado que compramos na casa onde nasceu Mozart dava para visitar a casa onde viveu depois. Entre os dois museus tenho que admitir que gostei mais do primeiro que visitámos, este não me pareceu ter tanto conteúdo como o outro mas mesmo assim tinha peças importantes da vida de Mozart para além do seu retrato que ainda hoje há dúvidas sobre se realmente é autêntico.

 

Our combined ticket we bought in the house where Mozart was born could also be used to visit the house where he lived after. eat: K + K - SALZBURGO, ÁUSTRIA

Sou daquelas pessoas que quando viaja leva sempre uma pequena lista de restaurantes da cidade aonde vou, Salzburgo foi a excepção, não levei nenhuma recomendação. Quando chegámos á cidade já tinha passado a tradicional hora de almoço e estávamos com fome, parámos no K+K que foi o primeiro sitio que encontrámos e não nos arrependemos.

 

I am one of those people that when traveling always takes a short list of restaurants in the city where I'm going, Salzburg was the exception, I took no recommendation. When we got to the city we had passed the traditional lunchtime and we were hungry, we stopped at K + K which was the first place we found and we do not repent.

É talvez o nativo de Salzburgo mais famoso do mundo e nasceu nesta colorida casa que fica no número 9 da Getreidegasse, o seu nome Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Ele e a irmã foram os únicos filhos dos sete que nasceram da modesta familia Mozart, nasceu no dia 27 de Janeiro de 1756 e viveu dezassete anos nesta casa. Foi a primeira porta que "abrimos" para entrar no mundo de um dos maiores génios da música clássica.

eat: JOSEF HOLZERMAYR CONFISERIE - SALZBURGO, ÁUSTRIA

Entrámos na Josef Holzermayr em busca dos famosos Mozartkugel uns bombons feitos com nougat, maçapão de pistachio cobertos com chocolate negro. Foi Paul Fürst que os criou mas não foi o único a produzi-los por isso tanto na Fürst como na Holzermayer é possível encontrar os verdadeiros e feitos á mão.

Apesar da marca de chocolates existir desde 1865 a loja que fomos foi inaugurada em 1913 e está na praça de Alter Markt. O seu interior mantém a sua tradição e continua a dar vontade de comprar mais do que deveríamos.

Tem um nome complicado mas é a rua mais emblemática de Salzburgo. É nela que está a casa onde nasceu Mozart e onde em 1923 se inaugurou um café com o seu nome.

Mas o que realmente mais me marcou nesta rua foram os seus letreiros anunciando as lojas que estão instaladas nos seus edificios medievais. E todos têm que cumprir esta tradição basta ver por exemplo o da Zara.

 

It has a complicated name but it's the most emblematic street of Salzburg. This is where we can see the house where Mozart was born and where in 1923 a coffee opened with his name.
But what really struck me in this street were it's signs advertising stores that are located in its medieval buildings. And everyone has to fulfill this tradition just see eg Zara.

do: JARDIM DO PALÁCIO MIRABELL - SALZBURGO, ÁUSTRIA

A seguir á nossa viagem a Salzburgo tive que ver o "Música no Coração" outra vez. Não me lembrava de quase nada do filme e depois vi que numa das músicas mais famosas do filme em que Maria leva os filhos de Von Trapp a dar um passeio por Salzburgo cantando o Do Re Mi e na parte final entram no jardin Mirabell.

Depois de almoçar no Bairro das Letras decidimos ir até á Chueca, andava á procura da gelataria que tem gerado tantos posts nos blogs que sigo sobre Madrid, a Mistura. Mas esta casa de gelados é mais que isso é um exemplo de empreendorismo e de que uma boa ideia quando implementada com intencionalidade pode ser um êxito.

E os gelados são muito bons...

 

After lunch in the Barrio de las Letras we decided to go to Chueca I was looking for the ice cream parlor that has generated so many posts on the blogs about Madrid that I follow, the Mistura. And the ice cream is very good ...
