eat: SANTO RESTAURANTE & DELI - MADRID, ESPANHA

Há muito tempo que queria conhecer este restaurante, aparece em todos os blogs de Madrid e sempre bem recomendado. Este fim de semana conseguimos finalmente ir ao espaço da "chef" brasileira Juliana Aguiar que tem como missão a frescura e qualidade dos ingredientes que utiliza tendo um menú mais reduzido e sazonal. O resultado é uma cozinha brasileira autêntica mas que não fecha as portas a outra influências.

 

We have long wanted to know this restaurant, appears in all the blogs in Madrid and always well recommended. This weekend we finally got to go to the place of Brazilian "chef" Juliana Aguiar whose mission is the freshness and quality of ingredients used having a smaller and seasonal menu. The result is an authentic Brazilian cuisine but does not close the door to other influences.

eat: RESTAURANTE OS CUCOS - VILA VIÇOSA, PORTUGAL

É a nossa "estação de serviço", paragem obrigatória quando regressamos a Madrid. Não atestamos o carro mas o estômago e é o último lugar para matar saudades da comida portuguesa. O nosso prato favorito: o arroz de pato mas que só há ás terças, á quinta-feira toca o Cozido á Portuguesa ou melhor á Alentejana porque em vez do feijão branco vinha grão e não tinha frango.

 

It's our "service station", a must stop when we return to Madrid. We do not fill the car tank but our stomach and is the last place to relive memories of Portuguese food. Our favorite dish: duck rice but there is only on Tuesdays, Thursday dish is the Cozido á Portuguesa (Portuguese stew) or better yet Alentejo style because instead of white beans it had chickpeas and there was no chicken.

eat: PREGO DA PEIXARIA - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

O Natal é aquele momento familiar reunida á volta de uma mesa com bacalhau, bolo-rei, sonhos e outras frituras, assim manda a tradição. Para escapar ao traditional decidimos ir jantar fora e á procura de um sitio para hamburguers demos com um de pregos. Parece que a febre saiu dos centros comerciais e já encontrou um lugar "cool" onde comer um bife no pão. Mas não é um bife qualquer...este é do lombo e nota-se a diferença.

 

Christmas is that moment in time family is gathered around a table with cod, king cake (bolo-rei), "sonhos" and other fried foods, so tradition dictates. To escape the traditional we decided to go out to dinner and looking for a place to hamburgers we found this "pregos" (a beef sándwich) place. It seems that the latest gourmet fever left the shopping malls and found a "cool" place to eat a steak on bread. But it is not just any steak... this is the tenderloin and one can notice the difference.

eat: PÁTEO DO PETISCO - CASCAIS, PORTUGAL

Com a moda dos restaurantes de petiscos para os lados da capital, faltava em Cascais um sitio agradável onde comer bem e conviver com amigos á volta de clássicos como ovos com farinheira, moelas, morcela assada, lascas de batata, etc.. Faltava, já não falta. Agora há o Páteo dos Petisco que parece difícil de encontrar mas lá conseguimos descubri-lo muito próximo de Birre.

 

With the fashionable restaurants of "petiscos" (smaller portions of food like tapas) in the capital, Cascais was missing a nice place where one could eat well and hangout with friends around classics like eggs with sausage, "moelas", roast black pudding, potato chips, etc. .. It was missing, but that was the past. Now there is the Páteo do Petisco that seems hard to find but we got there we discovered it very close to Birre.

Na Calle Castelló n.12, entre a Velázquez e o Retiro, encontra-se um de los mejores Breakfast & Brunch de Madrid - o Fonty.

Ao passar pela rua a montra convida a entrar, quer pelo delicioso aspecto da pastelaria quer pela decoração delicada e simples. Além de simpático, no Fonty é permitida a entrada de animais de estimação de pequeno porte - relembra as pastelarias de bairro pelo interior de Portugal, com um toque moderno. Além de simples, o espaço é acolhedor e descontraído - indicado para as famílias com niños.

On Calle Castelló n.12, between Velázquez and Retiro, is one of best Breakfast & Brunch of Madrid - the Fonty.
When passing by the street the storefront invites to enter either for it's the delicious looking pastry or by gentle and simple decor. In addition to friendly, in Fonty is the entrance of small pets is allowed - it reminds me of the neighborhood pastries of the interior of Portugal, but with a modern twist. Besides being simple, the space is cozy and relaxed - suitable for families with "niños".

eat: TONY ROMA'S - MAJADAHONDA, ESPANHA

O primeiro Tony Roma's abriu em Miami em 1972, um restaurante com uma decoração simples mas com boa comida cuja especialidade é o entrecosto com o seu saboroso molho de barbecue. Já tinha visto vários por Madrid e quando vi um em Majadahonda decidimos ir experimentar.

Ao entrar vimos que o restaurante era bastante grande e estava vazio, por alguns momentos pensámos que talvez fosse porque não seria muito bom mas em poucos minutos encheu de familias desejosas por comer o famoso entrecosto e os seus hamburguers.

 

The first Tony Roma's opened in Miami in 1972, a restaurant with simple decor but with good food whose specialty is ribs with a tasty barbecue sauce. I had seen several of Madrid and when I saw one in Majadahonda we decided to go try it.
Upon entering we saw that the restaurant was quite large and empty, for a few moments we thought maybe it was because it would be because it was not very good but in a few minutes it filled with families eager to eat the ribs and their famous burgers.

Numa viagem de trabalho a Münster o meu marido teve algum tempo livre e aproveitou para visitar o Mercado de Natal da cidade. Desta vez pedi para tirar fotos para me ir detalhando o que mais gostou e claro, foi o que fosse relacionado com a comida: adorou comer Currywurst, beber o Glühwein (vino quente) e voltar a comer um Kartoffelpuffer (uma espécie de patanisca com batata e cebola) servido com puré de maçã.

 

On a business trip to Münster my husband had some free time and took the opportunity to visit the Christmas market in the city. This time I asked him to take pictures for me and give me a full report of what he liked most and it was obvious, that it was everything related to the food: he loved eating the Currywurst, drink Glühwein (hot wine) and come back to eat a Kartoffelpuffer (a kind of potato pancake with onion) served with applesauce.

eat: SAN FRANCISCO COFFEE COMPANY - MUNIQUE, ALEMANHA

Uma das melhores coisas das férias é poder tomar um pequeno-almoço sem pressa, sair de casa e ir a um café agradável para começar o dia da melhor maneira. Não tínhamos muitos dias em Munique e queríamos aproveitar a cidade ao máximo para além de ir ao Neuschwanstein e a Salzburgo mas no último dia antes do voo conseguimos abrandar o ritmo e parar no San Francisco Coffee Company.

One of the best things about the holidays is being able to take a leisurely breakfast, leave home and go to a nice coffee house to start the day in the best wat. We didn't have many days in Munich and wanted to enjoy it to the fullest besides going to the Neuschwanstein and Salzburg but on the last day before the flight we were able to slow down and stop at the San Francisco Coffee Company.

Não consigo negar: adoro o Natal. Adoro! Nem penso muito na parte "comercial" só penso (e mais ainda por estar em Madrid) que é um momento para estar com a familia, um momento em que a pesar de estar um frio de rachar as pessoas encontram motivos para sair á rua seja para ver a iluminação da cidade ou para fazer compras.  E chegar até a esta árvore de Natal não foi fácil, uma multidão de gente tinha tido o mesmo desejo que nós e tornou mais complicado disfrutar com calma.

 

I can not deny it: I love Christmas. I love it! I don't think to much about the "commercial" side of it I just think (and even more for being in Madrid) is time to be with our family, a time when despite being freezing cold outside people always find a reason to go out into the street to see the lighting of the town or to go shopping. And to get to this Christmas tree was not easy, a crowd of people had had the same desire that we  had and it become more complicated to calmly enjoy.

eat: TAQUERÍA MI CIUDAD - MADRID, ESPANHA

O Domingo passado foi cheio de pequenas descobertas enquanto caminhávamos por Madrid para visitar os habituais lugares de azáfama natalicia. A Taquería Mi Ciudad foi outra delas. Num jantar de equipa, a nossa colega mexicana veio aqui comprar a comida, na altura tinha adorado e fiquei com o cartão mas nunca me dei ao trabalho de procurar o sitio, isto aconteceu há mais de dois anos. Ao ir da Calle Arenal até á Plaza Mayor passei por aqui e não pude resistir, tive que voltar a provar os tacos que dizem ser os mais genuínos da cidade.

 

Last Sunday was full of little discoveries as we walked through Madrid to visit the usual places of the holiday bustle. Taqueria Mi Ciudad was another of them. In a team dinner, our Mexican colleague came here to buy the food at the time remember loving it and got a visiting card but never took the time to look for the place, that happened more than two years ago. As I went from Calle Arenal to the Plaza Mayor we passed through this Taqueria and could not resist, I had to go back to try the tacos said to be the most genuine of the city.

shop: MERCADO DE NATAL PLAZA MAYOR - MADRID, ESPANHA

Madrid é uma cidade com boas tradições, umas melhores que outras e este Mercado de Natal pode estar no lado das boas com excepção de que tudo o que é tradicional está a evoluir mas aqui parece estar na mesma e é uma pena. Mas já o ano passado falei disso, influenciada por uma visita aos mercados de Natal da Bélgica achei que esse conceito faz falta aqui. Por outro lado e como Madrid é uma cidade grande podemos encontrar uma boa variedade de Mercados e nunca deixar de passar por aqui para manter essa tradição.

 

Madrid is a city with good traditions, some better than others, and this Christmas market may be on the good side with the exception that all that is traditional is evolving but here seems to be the same and it's unfortunate. But since last year I said, influenced by a visit to the Christmas markets in Belgium that found that concept was lacking here. On the other hand, as Madrid is a great city one can find a good selection of markets and never fail to come to this one to maintain this tradition.

shop: DULCE NAVIDAD - MADRID, ESPANHA

Este ano e no nosso tradicional passeio navidenho pelas ruas de Madrid encontrei este mercado na Plaza Isabel II. Caminhávamos pela Calle Arenal a caminho do Mercado de Natal da Plaza Mayor e começo a ler Dulce Navidad...com este nome como é que alguém consegue ficar longe?

Não sei há quanto tempo existe mas este ano foi a primeira vez que o vi, aqui vendem-se churros, pão, "empanadas", todo o tipo de gomas e doces, chocolates, bolinhos de maçapão, etc..

 

This year and during our traditional walk through the streets of Madrid during Xmas time we found this market in the Plaza Isabel II. We walked down Calle Arenal on our way to the Plaza's Mayor Christmas Market when I start reading Dulce Navidad (Sweet Christmas) ... with that name how can anyone stay away?
I do not know how long it exists but this year was the first time I saw it, here they sell churros, bread "empanadas", all kinds of gums and candies, chocolates, marzipan cookies, etc. ..

do: MUSEU DO TRAJE - MADRID, ESPANHA

Desde que vivo em Madrid que sempre tive curiosidade de visitar o Museu do Traje mais ainda depois de ter visto o de Portugal. Mas nunca foi o momento certo até ver na internet que na sexta-feira passada a entrada era gratuita. Foi a desculpa ideal e a isto juntou-se duas exposição temporárias que queria ver: a da icónica boneca Nancy e a das roupas da produção da série Isabel da TVE, que sigo religiosamente todas as segundas-feiras.

 

Since I live in Madrid have always been curious to visit the Museum of Costume even more after seeing the one from Portugal. But it was never the right time to see it until I saw on the internet that last Friday admission was free. It was the perfect excuse and also with the fact they held two temporary exhibition I wanted to see: the iconic Nancy doll and the clothes from the production of Isabel TVE series, that I follow religiously every Monday.

do: EXPOSIÇÃO NANCY SE VISTE DE MODA - MADRID, ESPANHA

Ontem foi feriado em Espanha, celebrava-se o Dia da Constituição que aconteceu justamente no ano em que nasci, 1978. Por esse motivo, vários museus tinham entradas gratuitas e um deles foi o Museu do Traje. Aproveitei a "borla" para ir ver a exposição temporária da Nancy que celebra 45 anos como uma das bonecas preferidas das meninas espanholas.

O objectivo era associar a marca espanhola a esta tão icónica e que atravessou fronteiras, para isso juntaram 25 criadores para contribuir para a exposição.

 

Yesterday was a holiday in Spain, they celebrated the Constitution Day it actually happened in the year I was born, 1978. By that reason, several museums have free admission and one was the Costume Museum (Museo del Traje). I took advantage of the "freebie" to go see the temporary exhibition of Nancy celebrating 45 years as one of the Spanish girls preferred dolls.
The aim was to involve the Spanish Brand with this iconic doll that crossed borders, for it gathered 25 designers to contribute to this exhibition.

eat: A PADARIA PORTUGUESA - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Tenho tanta mas tanta vontade de abrir uma A Padaria Portuguesa aqui em Madrid para poder ter á mão os pastéis de nata, o pão de ló de chocolate, as fatias de salame de chocolate, o pão acabado de fazer, os queques, o doce de abóbora, o pão com chouriço. Tudo o que tenho saudades da nossa boa pastelaria e que aqui lá vou encontrando substitutos mas não estão todos debaixo do mesmo tecto.

 

I have so much desire to open a The Portuguese Bakery here in Madrid in order to have nearby the custard cream tarts (pastéis de nata), chocolate sponge cake, slices of salami chocolate (salame de chocolate), freshly baked bread, muffins, the pumpkin jam, the chorizo bread. All that I miss from our good pastries that here I start finding some substitutes but are not all under the same roof.

eat: PIZZERIA MEZZOGIORNO - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

A Mezzogiorno foi outro restaurante que não estava nos nossos planos e aconteceu porque tivémos que prolongar a nossa reunião no hotel e no dia que estava a pesquisar restaurantes vi no Google maps este. Depois de um dia a provar a culinária portuguesa optámos por almoçar neste italiano cujo seu melhor cartão de visita é o forno a lenha que podemos ver assim que descemos as escadas.

 

The Mezzogiorno was another restaurant that was not in our plans and it happened because we had to extend our meeting at the hotel and in the day that I was searching for restaurants I saw this on Google maps. After a day tasting the Portuguese cuisine we opted for lunch at this Italian whose best visit card is the woodstove that we can see going down the stairs.

eat: THE DECADENTE - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Depois da nossa aventura por Lisboa com os GoCar, fomos jantar ao The Decadente. Não foi a primeira vez mas esta foi sem dúvida melhor experiência que a primeira e creio que foi porque ia acompanhada de espanhóis que são apologistas do "compartir" o que me permitiu provar mais pratos deste mais que recomendado restaurante e que figura no guia de viagens da Louis Vuitton.

 

After our adventure through Lisbon with GoCar, we had dinner in The Decadente. It was not the first time but this was undoubtedly better experience than the first and I think that was because this time was accompanied by Spaniards that are big fans of sharing ("compartir") which allowed me to sample more dishes of this more than recommended restaurant recommended in the travel guide of Louis Vuitton.

eat: TABERNA DO CHIADO - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

O nosso primeiro almoço em Lisboa durante a reunião de trabalho foi na Taberna do Chiado, confesso que não estava na minha lista de restaurantes mas quando a agenda derrapou em timings optei por um restaurante que estava em frente ao Hotel do Chiado, com comida portuguesa e que não comprometesse. Foi uma óptima escolha!

 

Our first lunch in Lisbon during the workshop was the Taberna do Chiado, I confess I was not on my list of restaurants but when it skidded on the agenda timings opted for a restaurant that was in front of the Hotel do Chiado, with Portuguese food and not compromise. It was a great choice!

do: GO CAR TOURS - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Durante a nossa reunião de trabalho em Lisboa havia espaço para fazer uma actividade que desse a possibilidade de conhecer a cidade. Primeiro pensaram no Bus turístico mas rápidamente chegámos ao GoCar. Além de ajudar a cumprir o primeiro objectivo, é uma forma divertida de o fazer e eu até diria com uma pontinha de aventura porque estamos a falar de motos a percorrer as sinuosas ruas de Lisboa.

 

During our workshop in Lisbon we had room to do an activity that made posible to see the city. First we thought about the Bus tour but quickly switched that idea for the GoCar. In addition to helping us fullfil the first objective, it is a fun way to do it and I would even say with a pinch of adventure, because we are talking about bikes roaming the winding streets of Lisbon.

sleep: HOTEL DO CHIADO - LISBOA, PORTUGAL

A primeira foto deste post é a que melhor ilustra o porquê de eu gostar tanto deste hotel sem nunca ter passado ali uma noite. Tem uma das melhores vistas sobre a cidade de Lisboa e quem aqui fica se tem um quarto como este terá sem dúvida uma excelente estadia.

Não tenho por hábito dormir num hotel quando vou visitar a familia, mas desta vez o que me levou a Portugal foi uma reunião de trabalho que me pediram para organizar e não hesitei. Recebi vários elogios pela minha escolha.

 

The first photo of this post is the one that best illustrates why I liked this hotel so much having never spent a night there. Has one of the best views over the city of Lisbon and who stays here and has a room like this will undoubtedly have a great stay.
I do not have the habit of sleeping in a hotel when I visit the family, but this time what took me to Portugal was a work meeting that I was asked to organize and did not hesitate. I received several compliments on my choice.
